So I have been leaving my FOB in the car and using the electronic keypad. I recently discovered that if it is raining the keypad can be finicky. The first time I experienced this was when I was trying to unlock my car in a downpour. It took 4 or 5 tries before I entered the vehicle totally soaked. The next time was after playing hockey at 11:30 pm in a deserted parking lot. My friend and I stood in the rain as I tried to unlock the car. Eventually the keypad started blinking and wouldn't let me make any entries-- I thought I was locked out (for entering to many improper codes)and was going to have to find a way to call Ford (our cellphones were locked in the car). Fortunately the blinking stopped and I was able to open the car.

Next time I am going to thoroughly dry the keypad before entering any codes.

I haven't tried locking the keys in the car and punching in numbers in the wet (I generally don't drive my SHO in the rain) but I have noticed when washing the car that as I hose over the keypad it will light up. Apparently either my water has a slight charge (grounded water pipes having an effect?) or it alters the capacitance of the keypad just enough to fool it in to thinking the water is a finger. It seems the keypad may be a bit too sensitive (except when it comes to using the 7-8 and 9-0 buttons to lock the car).

I think just the pressure alone of falling raindrops has an effect. Mine almost always comes on while sitting in the driveway and it is raining.

When I wash my car with keys in my pocket, the pressure of the water from the hose makes the keypad do a light show! First time I was really wondering how it could unlock just with the water! I thought at that point that you needed a specific code to unlock...
