I am looking at adding an 89/93 tune to my 14 SHO. I emailed Livernois support about the effect of a tune on the "sport" mode. I was told there would be little if any difference in the performance of the tune, regardless if I'm in normal or sport mode. My understanding of the sport mode is that it really only activates a more aggressive transmission program for shifting points, etc.

For those of you that have had tunes, do you just stop using the sport mode or keep in sport all the time or something different? What effect did your tune have on the sport mode? Thanks for the info.

I don't really think it makes any difference, performance wise. I used the paddle shifters one time and decided they weren't useful for me.

The paddle shifters really are not good for performance. I personally believe the reason is because it takes at least 1/2 second from the time you push the paddle until the car actually shifts. So if you're wanting to shift at 6500 rpm, you have to push the paddle way before you get there. It doesn't allow for consistent shifts and hurts times.

Well according to LMS they actually create their tunes based on the car/tranny being in Sport mode for best results. I can't recall which thread in here, but it's a quote from them. I drive in D all the time except when I creep up on a sports car or a worthy car willing to race I slap her into S! I believe it does help "some."

Maybe I misunderstood them but my Livernois interpretation was: at WOT everything is the same whether in sport or drive when tuned. In the 2013-2017’s sport mode also gives a different, more responsive feel to the gas pedal. Sometimes too touchy when I’m driving over slow bumps I get the car jerking like a beginner driver. But I like the feel of sport unless I’m on the road over 40mph and want 6th gear.

As far as paddle shifters, I’m lousy at it even forgetting to shift when in manual/sport. Some sho’s report hitting the rev limiter but with the tunes I’ve had (V8 91, 93, V10 93, and LME dyno tune 93) mine will shift before it will hit the limiter. Which works great on a roll. I can lock the gear needed and it will still shift at redline (or optimum rpm).

I occasionally use the paddle to downshift while in D when going around a corner so not to lug the engine

There is no negative to the vehicle being in sport mode. But the performance in standard driving mode is almost if not equal to sport mode it's self.

The main difference is the driver demand tables. There's one for Drive, and one for Terrain Mode/Sport Mode. This is to tell the ECU how much torque you are requesting based on throttle position and RPM. I've been experimenting with reduced torque in Drive (for better fuel economy) and the increased torque in Sport Mode.

Depending on who your tuner is or what you do with your tune, you could make Drive and Sport driver demand tables the same, or make them different. E.g. 87 octane boost levels in Drive and 93 octane boost levels in Sport mode. This way you have less wear and tear on your turbos, engine, and drivetrain in Drive.

I prefer advancetrak off also wish I could just hit the button three times or once to make it go-to that setting for winter driving.
