I haven't done this testing procedure before, so I have a question or two about it. First, in the SHOTimes article, after describing the KOEO test, it says this:

KOER Test
Set up as mentioned above

So I start with the pins connected under the hood as in the KOEO test, then switch them when it says to turn off the engine?

And how sensitive is this test? Will I screw my SHO up if I do something wrong? Is there any common tip I may not know? Thanks for any suggestions!

The SHOtimes article is missing a few particulars about the test. First, all you have to do to run the KOER test is to connect the jumper the same way as for the KOEO test (self test input connected to signal return) and start the engine. Here is a more detailed site for the testing and the code descriptions. The link to the 2-digit codes is near the top of the page.

The test is not a threat to the EEC, but rather a designed-in tool for diagnostics as required by EPA emissions controls. The later OBD-II computers are much more powerful and monitor many factors of the engine control system.
