Ok, i'm going to try to replace my ect temp sensor... (whatever it's called). Would one from autozone work? Or do i have to use a motorcraft? also I used a thermostat from autozone last time, so should i replace that if my car is overheating? I had the temperature checked on my car today too and it came out to 180 on the rad hose, and 195 on the engine. is that normal? My gauge in the car was reading on the top line of the normal bracket. But when i drive it, it wil overheat... I thought about replace the core on the radiator... But if i go and do that i mine as well try this first and if it doesnt work just put a high flow rad in there. thanks for the help... Oh also how do i replace the temp sensor(ECT) and the thermostat. I am mechanically inclined so every dumb little detail would help me out a lot... thanks a lot!

also do you need to empty the coolant before replacing the sensor? and is it easier to do it by taking off any other parts before replacing it... thanks...

The only thing the ECT will do is (tell the computer to) start up the fan when it gets hot. If the fan comes on, that may not be the problem. The gauge sender may be faulty; these seem to go out more often than the ECT. Both of these are just under the thermostat housing; the ECT is the bigger sensor on the left; the temp gauge sender is to the right and smaller. If you don't drain some fluid out first it will come out either of the holes when you take the sensors out.
