I know I saw this somewhere on here, but I could not find it with search. Is there a writeup out there about swapping the eatc and the headunit, or at least some tips from the wise about doing this?

Thanks in advance :thumb:

it's quite easy. first, yank the EATC and push the wires down the driver's side of the vents. Next, take your stereo wires (with the attached aftermarket wiring harness) and shove them up the same route. It's gonna take a minute to get everything sorted out, but it works.
Once you get your wires routed, grab hold of your EATC. Got it? good. Now...get yourself a really sharp pair of scissors or a little saw and lop the ears right off the sides of that puppy. Now...this is where opinions vary. I took the faceplate off the EATC (using this opprotunity to replace the broken buttons with boneyard pieces) and run a couple of self-tapping screws through the sides. The screws don't actually go through the part that the stereo used to be attached to, but they hold mine in quite nicely. remember...do this AFTER you plug the EATC back in. Then just clip the faceplate back on.
Now...concerning the stereo in the EATC location. You can just set it in there and watch it bounce around on the vents, or you could go splurge at your local car audio dealer and get yourself a generic dash adapter, trim it to fit and put some holes in it. I've done that, and it looks like a factory set-up.
I'll do my wife's next, but I need to extend the wires on her stereo harness, cuz they don't quite reach the top hole. Oddly enough, though, the ones on my 92 made it all the way up. You might wanna consider extending the wires, just for convenience, anyway.
Hope this helps. Good luck! :thumb:

Thanks much :thumb: I may have a go at it soon, have the next couple days off. Do you happen to have a pic of the finished result, SuperHO?

Unfortunatly, I've not entered the age of the digital camera, so, no. Though one of these days I'll wind up with pics of my car online....perhaps after it looks decent.

Like I think I said, the hardest part of the whole thing was the wiring, cuz there's not that much room behind the dash for my bohemoth forearms. I lost a little skin, but it was worth it.
