Or rather a swap for that matter.
The passenger side boot has finally gone.... so i was just simply going to go pull it off, and throw the one from my parts car on(in good shape, no prior problems).
what I was wondering, was if it would be easier to just pull the whole unit off (intermediate shaft-outter H/S) of both vehicles and just swap? Or doing it the regular way, just removing the H/S from the intermediate shaft. However, i have read that the c-clips need to be replaced (they come with new shafts, i know). Can these be used? I have reused the one on the drivers side many times. I dont see them really holding anything, as once the suspension is back on, its not going to go anywhere.

I was also concerned about the 30mm nut. I have read that you cannot reuse this. Is that information accurate? Is it a locking nut?

TIA.

I've reused the 30mm nut and even forgot to put the washers back on. I've done some VERY spirited driving with it like that, and I haven't had any problems. I pulled my engine a few weeks ago to change the tranny, and they were just as tight as I had them. But, of course, a lot of luck was involved, especially with the missing washers, haha. There's a slight pinch to the bolt, so maybe that's why it isn't supposed to be used again. Maybe it slightly crushes the threads on the way on to ensure it stays put, or something.

circlips are not required for install. hub nut IS oval shaped, hence a locking nut. you can get them from just about any parts store for less than $5, though, there should be one included if you buy a remaned half shaft. you can purchase them at your local parts house. i know they carried em at the parts house i used to work at. Advance lists 2 different brands, Dorman and McQuay-Norris. lemme check my stash of parts, i may have an unused one for ya.

to make the swap/install easier, just unbolt the lower control arm and strut rod. thatll give you enough movement to pull the intermediate shaft from the trans.

Update... erm,, whatever...

I'm pulling(or trying to) the halfshaft off the 93 as i type this... i have got down to the point that the only thing holding me back is where it joins the intermediate shaft. I cant get it off for the life of me.... is there some trick that im un-aware of? (aside from prying :squint: :p )

TIA.

EDIT: Nevermind.... I wasnt putting all of the cojones into it... got it off.

I think im gonna go pick up a 30mm socket.... i dont want to f- up the one on the 91'. all i had that was close was a 1 1/8'' .... guess i should pick up the bolt too... :nut:

EDIT: after reading through some thread real quick, it seems as if you have to use a hammer to get the socket on... which i did, just not all the way....

Would that 1 1/8'' still work, that is if i get it to seat all the way (or most of)?
And i was just gonna locktite that SOB... that is if they dont have one in the store....
