well I finally got new headlights. opted for Eagle Eyes. here are a few pics.

Question : wondering what kind of options there are to help them stay looking nice for a while. clear lense covers maybe ? or is there another option ?

btw, as someone else posted recently, the rubber seals were loose on mine too. I installed em as is but will def. have to epoxy / crazy glue it in place this weekend to keep out moisture and debris.

Hey Chris, lookin good. Is it the bulbs you replaced or the actual lens? -An automotive spray clearcoat will make your'e lenses look brand new.:)

thanks Nik,
lenses. see that photo comparing the two, the pic may not do it justice but in short my old ones were just plain tired and the new ones are crystal clear

so no harm in covering the lenses with a clear coat then ? if I can get away with not spending $40 more for clear lense covers that'd be great. I have some spray sitting at home. I'd like to get a leg up on the yellowing and scratching , as some have suggested they are cheapies so I don't want my $135 investment going sour too soon ;)

what about yours Nik , they look lightly dusted with nite shade spray is that right ? it looks subtle enough so I probably could get away without it going noticed by troopers. might try that on my old ones first to make sure its doable, then clear coat it

IMO Niteshades is a step in the wrong direction. Even when the lenses are 100% clear and brand new, these headlights suck. Why on earth would you DECREASE the output? :nut:

Clearcoat might work, but I wouldn't mess with it on new lenses. Chances are you'll be making things worse. The clearcoat isn't going to adhere well to that smooth new plastic, and it probably won't stand up to the elements any better than the existing plastic would. I could see shooting some older lenses with clearcoat to pretty them up, though.

I've always had good results with plastic cleaner followed up with Rain-X.

true. I would consider clear lenses for more protection, but I agree on these headlights why bother.

I like the smoked out look, but on my white SHO I am not as attached to it . I might try the niteshades on my old pair and if I absolutely love the look I could take my chances with the new ones

essentially my question should have been , what are some of the things that a proud new owner of new headlights should do and not do? should I never run a sponge across it with carwash soap, etc, that kind of thing. I could be wrong but I wonder if the yellowing increased its pace siimply from washin the car too dang much ?

all that said, I might just stick with Rain-X.

I agree 100%. These headlights do suck. Originally I was after the look wich I do like alot. I'm not saying that the look is worth the decrease in effect but I can put up with it. I did keep it pretty subtle but there are times I wish I had not even messed with them. I just don't feel like paying the high price of new lens assemblies...Maybe someday. Then I can have 2 pairs

Oh, and Chris, not too sure what advice on care for the new lenses but perhaps 3M makes a flexible film like a clear bra you could mask them with..? A clearcoat would clean the old ones right up...or you could tint em' and have some daytime lenses for show. BTW, nice tires! I miss those(I had 50s).

yeah, dunno I was just fishin for some ideas. I use Rainex for my windshield and like it somewhat. it does attract pollen and other stuff though so it can be a PITA. I tried it on the rear glass and sides, decided its not worth it on those, just makes it harder to get the glass looking crystal clean. but I haven't applied it to lenses, I think I'll give that a shot first, and also try niteshades on my yellowed old pair. I'd like to have the GT smoked lenses on the front, but thats way down the list since its strictly a luxury purchase

thanks guys

oh the tires are 55s, BFG's, in my sig
