SHO'ers -

Someone at my work today said I could put E85 in my car as it sits (stock) and get more power but less gas mileage. Is this true? I am a little weary on his information.

You cannot run pure E85 stock in the SHO. You can mix a little into regular fuel though.

So 1 gallon E85 + 19 gallons regular (E10 fuel), or 2 gallons E85 + 18 gallons regular fuel is what you'd aim for. You can use this calculator to figure out exact amounts:

If you plan on adding E85 regularly, err on the side of caution and stay near E15-17 overall. Do not exceed E20 in a stock SHO (yes, that includes tunes). Hardware upgrades to the fuel system need to be made to accommodate higher E percentages.

Thank you! I think I am going to stay away from that right now and focus on getting a tune.

The other concern that most E users overlook repeatedly, is that the SHO employs a saddle bag type fuel cell with two LPFP's.

Whatever concoction you think your mixing and putting into the tank, is never the mixture that's reaching the motor.

Reason being is because the initial saddle where you pump fuel into has to depend on that 1st LPFP to transfer it over to the second saddle before the 2nd LPFP routes it up to the motor.

Therefore the percentages are further diluted & never really accurate as far as what's inserted at the nozzle.

There are a myriad of other variables as well.

Thank you so much. I think I may just save up for the Windstorm Tuner Package from Livernois. I don't need to mess around with E-85.

Very good info above...I would not disregard it at all.

That being said, I've been running a slight mix at 17% for 9 months. Zero issues at the moment, but the corrosive effects of ethonal on a system that's not made for it weighs heavy on my mind. I battled that with MMO and just recently switched over to an Amsoil product to keep the fuel system (cams) lubricated.

Originally started the mix to battle the horrible winter fuel we get, 93 octane tune struggles on it. After a little corn (e/85), all was better and netted me the fastest non meth SHO roaming the planet!!!

So, it's a give and take risk some of us take to help keep pre-detonation at bay.

My buddies above^^^ are 100% correct on the concerns they brought up.
