I think it was the turbo internals or something. Savage way to go.
Yeah maybe it was that. Take it you saw it too? I hate seein that kinda stuff. My boy was gettin his car dyno'd and I guess the service manage asked us to step back then handed me his phone and said watch this. Once I saw what happened, I was a little ******. Coulda warned me bout what I was about to see, lol.

I did, now that I've had time to think I'm pretty sure it was the turbine wheel. My buddy watched a Subaru dump his out of the exhaust on the track once after grenading the turbo.

Wish I could find it, but saw a security cam video footage of a guy watchin his car get dyno'd then get killed when the engine blew and something hit him in the neck...im guessing a rod or piston. Was pretty disturbing to watch....
That was the crank pulley that flew off. Why you always stand clear of the Dyno when in operation. Don't stand behind because rocks from tires or to the side because stuff coming out from underneath. Safest place probably in the interior of the vehicle in that moment. Lot of things can go wrong, but most places make you stand behind something or far away.

The place I usually go has you behind reinforced glass.

Yep I go into the other room behind reinforced glass. I have seen studs on wheels fail, turbine and compressor failures, and the scariest one was a high tire speed blow on the dyno.

Not a fan of getting hit with anything let alone a 100+ mph lugnut or tire tread D:

Yes sir. The whole stud and lug nut were found across the shop sticking in the dry wall. We bought new studs, reinstalled them and back to the dyno. Next run, it cut a slick and did some damage. It did make 1632 hp that run before the slick failed.

I don't think I want you near me when anything is on the dyno, you sound like you're cursed!

Hahah no. That car gave us some fits. I buddy has 63 Chevy II with a 565 BBC with 3 kits on it. Made 1158 to the tire and went 8.03 @163.

IIRC in 2008 he put a Procharger on it and it made 1352 on 30 psi. Everything was good. Went to the track and could not get it to go faster then 8.08 but its MPH was 178. He was dead set on a 7 second pass.

So he got the bright idea to hit it with the fogger too. And it was rowdy however he aborted the when the stud broke. We fixed it. Then went back a week later. When the slick failed, he was on the plate and fogger with 38 psi of boost. he would spin the 565 to 7800 rpm. It made 1632 at 66oo rpm. The slick was newer but the wheel speed was approaching 190 mph. The slick grew and drove itself into the inner fender and failed.

That car was great between 163 to 180 mph he said. After 190 mph was scary.

I remember when the video came out of the one dyno operator who stepped on the drum during a pull. That didn't end well either.
