(A) I'm trying to replace some of the sensors/senders in my '89 SHO. So far have replaced the O2 sensors and the coolant sensor for idiot gage on dash. Have shop manuals, but they don't do a good job of showing where the sensors are.

I'm interested in knowing the locations of the following sensors before I crawl underneath her (her?):

(1) ECT sensor
(2) Oil sender
(3) Oil level - idiot light on dash (?)

Is (3) at the front of the oil pan to the upper right in reference to the oil plug (looking towards front of car)?

(B) Where are jack points for SHO that are used for supplied scissors jack? I've been using what I believe are the correct locations - the indentation where the sheet metal is bolted together that runs the length of the car (I hope I'm using the right words and explaining this right).

(C) I have been using ramps to work under the engine. Recently purchased jack stands. Can I use the scissors jack to lift one side to desired height, place jack stand, then lift other side and place second jack stand?

I don't know if this is even feasible and how I can do this since the scissors jack will occupy the jack points. If this procedure is OK, is there another place to locate the jack stands besides the jack points or is there another place I can lift vehicle with scissors jack and then place jack stands at jack points.

Is there a maximum height I can lift one side in reference to the other side? I was thinking of going back and forth between the two sides and lifting each a reasonable increment to get the car at the needed height.

Is it dangerous to lift one side of the vehicle at a time like this and should I, instead, use (and need to buy) a hand floor jack (lift front of car at center and then place jack stands)?

Thanks for your help. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Marccus, The oil level sender is on the firewall side about midway up the engine block. Replacing that will also fix a likely oil leak.
The factory jack is designed to be used on that seam you mention. There are specific reinforced indentations on the seam for the jack. The jack stands I have found work best when the car is set on the mid subframe bolts.
I would definitely recommend buying an inexpensive rolling floor jack and just use the factory jack for a flat on the road sort of thing.

Low Oil Level Switch: Lower center rear of engine --- C1021

Oil Pressure Switch: Rear of engine --- C1025

Coolant Temperature Sender: Top LH side of engine --- C182 left of upper radiator to thermostat connection

You are using the correct factory scissor jack locations. I wouldn't recommend placing jack stands on that portion of the car as it is designed for the cradle of the scissor jack.

It doesn't hurt to raise one side at a time and is probably safer than the entire front of the car trying to ballance on a single jackpoint. You can place jackstands under any solid portion of the subframe.

You can jack up the car pretty high, I would recomend going to wal-mart and buying a $15 floor jack, makes things a whole lot easier. Just make sure to put it under the subframe along with the jack stands. Also you want to block the rear wheels so it does not roll, I just use a couple pieces of 2x4 and they work great holding the car.

The oil level sensor is right next to the starter, (near the front of the car), the oil sender is hiding near the rear exaust bank, I am not sure what you mean by ECT sensor (have not heard of that one.)

ECT= engine coolant tempature sensor. (where I already said it was)

Also to correct were I said oil level sensor is the wording was directly from a refrence page (copy & paste) but it didn't sound right so I went to the Schematic and it shows it where Eric posted. Lower engine by starter.

Thanks for the help. You guys are great.

Everytime I call a parts department at a dealer or bring the shop manual in and ask them where something is located all I get is "We don't know, you'll have to get under the car and look".

As an aside, why does Ford give part numbers for fasteners in the shop manual, but when I ask the parts dept. at a Ford dealer for the size, they say "we don't have that info."

Then who does?

Same for tools listed by part number in shop manual. All I get is "We don't sell any tools". I know that, I just want to know what the specific tool is so I can rent/buy it. "We don't have that info"

What gives!!

Is there a fastener list for the Ford SHO - for, example, starter bolt size, oil pan bolts/studs.

It would make things a lot easier if one can obtain this info before hand if you knew you had to replace some fasteners before taking things apart or anticipating snapping a bolt.

They reference the items I mentioned by part number, so there has to be a list somewhere?

Anyone know?

Thanks.

you have to talk to the service department about tools, the parts department has nothing to do with them. You should see the rotunda tool catalog. To sum it up with one word... Chaos.
