How much harder or easier is it to drop the ATX over the MTX? I've dropped an MTX a couple times and not an ATX, yet. It seems harder for the ATX, but yet has less steps in the book required for removal. Any opinions from someone who has dropped both before is appreciated.

ATXSHO,

The process is almost identicle.

When you remove the torque converter to "flywheel" bolts, mark the torque converter and the "flywheel" at one of the bolt positions. I use a dab of paint. This is so you put the two back together in the same relative position.

A "crowsfoot" wrench is necessary to torque these bolts.

If you have the trans out replace the rear main seal, the axel seals, and the trans input shaft seal. If you are going to rebuild it, upgrade it.
Also get the torque converter rebuilt if it has more than 75k on it.

Lastly, it is much heavier than a manual trans! rangerj

LOL...the only reason I'm going in there is to replace the seals as it's leaking. I keep getting low on fluid and filled the tranny to engine part with silicone to keep it from leaking on the ground and the tranny still operates great with no slipping. I wonder if I just keep topping the fluid off until it fills up where ever it's going and stops taking my fluid, if it would be okay or would some slippage occur?

Thanks for the reply. wink
