ok while dropping my motor in after 2 years, i get everything set perfect and start bolting everything in. Things are going great! I shimmy under the car and see the drive shaft from the drivers side that comes out of the trans to the passenger side. now on that shaft there is a semi circle bearing that mounts onto the under side of the block to support that shaft so it doesnt sag. my question is have any of you ran into this problem? if so what did you do to fix it? if you havent ran into this, do you have any ideas? thank you :salute:

touche' the motor is dropped in and that "brace" is flipped up side down and you can not rotate it for it to face the correct way to bolt into the block. i got a little ahead of myself.

pop the lower ball joint, swing the suspension / cv shaft / intermediate shaft away from the tranny, rotate into place, reinstall everything

There might be enough give in the CV joints to allow the intermediate axle to come out an inch or so, but I'm not sure.

Driveshaft brace response

I just purchased my first SHO. 1989 like mentioned above. The problem with the part described is that I it's obsolete. Does anyone know if there is another here? The bearing has come loose from the rubber and the axle slides out of the transaxle, causing at the very least a major leak. I haven't been able to find the part yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

i havent had enought ime to fix this problem yet, but today i went under the car and saw that the "brace" looks like it is held in place by a C-clip. would i be able to pop that c-clip out of place, and slide the brace off and out of the way of the mounting point?

Personally, I wouldn't try this. You risk separating one of the two CV joints, especially given what a pain it can be to get the clip from the intermediate axle out of the transmission. You may also find it extremely difficult to get the clip back in, given the added lateral pressure with the outer axle/strut still attached, as well as risk damaging/destroying the axle seal in the process.

Take it apart - you'll end up spending less time in the long run and not break/damage things trying a short-cut.
