PLEASE HELP!! I can't get the cuss driver's side window to come up on my 97 SHO. It was working fine one minute and the next minute its not. Each time I push DOWN on the switch I can here a loud clicking noise, and the lights dim. When I click UP, all I get is a little dimming of the interior lights. From this I gather that power is getting into the switch and the switch is working, due to the lights dimming when the connection is made. I pulled the door panel off the driver's door and peeled back the inner plastic sealant on the door. I tried to force the window up while pushing UP on the switch, but to no avail. I know that the drivers window is on a relay. So I tried replacing the relay with other ones from the fuse box (under the driver's dash) and everything still works fine but the window, so I don't think that is it either. Any help is appreciated, because right now I can't drive it to work and I sure do miss it!

MEESHO,

The lights dimming tells me that the electricity is getting to the motor but the motor is jammed. This could be a regulator problem as stated above, or internal in the motor.

Look at all the window mechanisms for any bent, broken, or disconnected parts of the mechanisms. Flip the switch from up to down and down to up while looking inside the door. Look for any signs of something being jammed.

Look for any "popped" rivets, or broken bolts, that hold the motor and parts of the mechanisms to the door frame or inner door. Look at a service manual and get an idea as to how the mechanisms work, and how and where they are held in place. Broken rivets are a common problem.

If there is no obvious mechanism jambs, then tap on the motor with a hammer, or an extension bar, etc. It could be as simple as a stuck brush in the motor.

It could also be dry gears in the motor "gear box" (for lack of a better term for the gear housing, or a broken gear). The gear is nylon. Let us know what you find. rangerj

Thanks to all who read my post and thanks for the advice. I took the door panel back off (after putting it on so I could drive the car...missed it too much) and rechecked all the connections. I wish Ford would have made it easier to get the switches out of the door. I gave up on taking them out, I didn't really want to make things worse. Didn't matter anyway, since it seemed power was getting through the switches. I took the motors out of the front door and back door, and switched them. What do you know it worked. My driver's window now works, but the back doesn't work now, which is not too big a deal. So it seems that is was a faulty motor. Thanks again for the help. :D

MEESHO,

Take the faulty motor apart. Then clean the comutator, (the copper surface the brushes ride on)with 600 "Wet or Dry" sandpaper.

Wrap the sandpaper arround the comutator, then wrap a piece of string arround it (two time should do it). Then work the string back and forth to clean up the surface.

Clean any and all crap out of the motor and its case. Then apply a good grease to the bearings, such as 1200-2 Lubriplate or wheel bearing grease (don't over-do the grease).

Now you can take apart the gear case, clean it up, and put fresh grease in it. Check for any broken parts.

Put it all back together and test the motor with a pair of jumper leads and a 12 Volt battery.

If you screw it up, so what! You would have had to replace the motor anyway. If it works, then you save the money from NOT having to buy a motor, right? rangerj

Thanks, rangerj, I will have to give that a try. However, I already ordered a new one. I guess this way I can have an extra one (if I can get it to work) just in case another one desides to quit on me. :D
