Wow!

Opened my driver's side door and forgot to put my car in park...door caught on the bumper/quarter panel on my wife's Flex...sprung my door and bent the front and back edge of the door...

Took the car to the dealers' body shop for an estimate...the body shop manager told me the only parts on the door you can replace are the mirror and the door handle and I need to replace the door to the tune of $3,300!

Ant thoughts or am I getting screwed?

Parts catalog shows a complete door shell. About 1100 bucks.

You can also order the outer skin, 300 dollars.

I cringed just reading your post, and I'm very sorry to hear about that. I also admire your honesty in posting what really happened rather than some made up story placing blame on something other than yourself.

Your homeowner's or car insurance may cover negligence like that. It sounds like you'd definitely meet the deductible. You might study the policy and determine if it's covered, then if it's worth the claim.

I thought Ford stopped selling skins for a lot of 2010 and newer cars? I know you can't skin the door on the Flex, you have to get the whole door. I thought it was that way on the new Taurus too?

$3,300 sounds about right to me because there is a lot of labor involved in changing the whole door, especially with all of the electronics now a days, plus there's a bunch of moldings you have to R&I from the old door to the new one and if a clip breaks or something (very common) you have to order a new molding too. They also have to prep and paint it, as well as they have to blend the paint onto the adjacent panels, so the color and clearcoat texture matches well and it isn't noticeable that just one panel was replaced.

rule of thumb for doing JUST a door skin. If the door doesnt close properly NOW it wont close properly when you put a new skin on it.

a $3300 quote for a job like this isnt outlandish.

post up a copy of the estimate and we can tell you if your being taken for a bath
