Drip, drip goes the oil ... once the engine is warm now with pic's

As the title implies when the engine starts to warm up I am getting a slow steady drip of oil. It seams to be coming from the middle of the engine. I just did the vavle cover gaskets a while ago and noticed the drip after I put it back together and ran it. I thought I may have messed up the valve cover gasket, so I took it back apart and double checked the gasket, and it is still dripping oil from the same general location. Dead smack in the middle.

Oh SHO Gods, Oh SHO gods, Please rescue me!

Could this be the oil pan gasket? If so I may as well do the rod bearings at the same time, any idea where to get them.

Sounds like the oil pressure sensor (common) or oil level sensor (less common).

i picked up the oil pressure sensor for 7 bucks new where is this thing on the car might try to do it tonight

Back of the block, drivers side...to be accessed from the bottom.

took a look at the sensor from the top on motor and shes dry as a bone ran my hand around it and no oil but from the look of it its comming from somewhere else wtf now im lost so i guess i realy have to get under it and take a peek

Yes, you need to look from underneath. Buy a set of ramps or look up how to position jack stands, picture is here: http://www.shophoenixproject.com/sfb/sfb.htm

Well, just by looking at the pictures I can tell you the oil pressure sensor is not leaking. It seems dry as can be.

However, above that you can certainly see oil. The only thing above that sensor that can leak oil is the valve cover gaskets. The first pictures shows the bottom corner of the head wet with oil - the only gasket their is the valve cover.....

Or - you can degrease the back side of your motor, spray it all down - then raise it up, start it up and watch to see where the oil comes from.

Your oil pan is probably leaking also, but their is certainly a source above that.

so like what am i going to do i have done thoes covers 2 times already now and they still leak they are driveing me nuts should i put rtv on the back side of the cover to see if it fixs this dammm leek if this keeps leaking im going to set fire to the dam thing should i go out and get a new set of gaskets im lost on this i just want to get this car up and running and start enjoying it

That is the sentiment of EVERY SHO owner who does DIY work. We have ALL been through it. Mine has been down for over 3 months now becuase I keep getting setbacks on it. Oil leaks do suck and I remember reading that there was a certain way that the VC Gaskets had to be installed. Maybe someone else can elaborate.

This would eliminate having to do something that you don't need to do, or do again.

well with the valve cover gaskets..i used a little rtv in certain spots especially around the cam rounded area of the valve cover if this helps at all.

The valve cover gaskets need RTV on them in certain areas, and you also need to make sure they don't get rolled when putting the VC back on.

True, just because you have done it, doesn't mean it was done correctly. These motors are very specific on how they want stuff done to them.

i made very sure to put it on right i even moved the heater core hose's the steels ones out of the way coz they were stopping me from putting them on right thats what i thought i did wrong the first time
should i put rtv on the gasket along the back side of the cover ???

no.

It doesn't take much to role the gasket, especially on the rear head. Once you role it and tighten things down, the gasket is done. It will have to be replaced.

Are we sure this isn't a rear main seal??? When is the last time you had transmission work done to it? Ever replaced that seal before?

Another thing.. clean all that up with something nasty like ether and dry it off real good with paper towel. Then see where its really coming from. I've had to do that a few times. Then go back with paper towel again and blot around the engine to see if you can get a better idea of where its coming from.

Sounds to me like the cam gear seals are leaking .

looking at the pics i dont think that the leak is on the side of the cam seals, i would think you need to redo the valve cover gaskets and use some black rtv, you can get the rod bearings from rcmautomotive for around 65$, comes with,bearings, oilpan end seals, rtv, oil pickup gasket, and plastigauge, they ship very quickly.
