Door Problems

Any help would be great. I'm having a problem w/ my passenger front & driver side rear doors not opening. Any idea what could've caused this. And has anyone ever had this happen before? It's been going on for a few weeks now & a friend of mine said that it's happened to alot of Tauruses in general . I personally don't have a problem 'cause I can get in on my side but the wife is tired of getting in the car like Bo & Luke Duke .

A couple of possibilities!

Linkage rod between the door handle and the latch is:
Broken
disconnected
out of adjustment

Linkage rod that locks and unlocks the latch is:
broken
disconnected
out of adjustment
or lock solenoid is not functioning

I have this happen to my drivers side door occasionally. The door and linkage are working, ie the door is becoming unlatched. But, somehow is stuck in place. If I am in the car I have to push it, or outside I have to pull. It will go along time being fun and then be problematic for awhile, then go back to normal...

Maybe a dumb question...

Have you tried spraying some white grease into the latch assembly? Sometimes they just stick from lack of lubrication.

Sorry Tim, I haven't tried that. Now the handles will go up when I pull them from the outside but it sometimes works when I hold the lock up w/ my fingers & pull & pull & pull & pull & pull & POP.....it's open! By that time my the people in the car have burned 2 a crisp, the wife's yelling " put the fire out in my hair w/ the extinguisher you idiot". Plus it's a little :laugh_ti: & to see a 200+ pound guy climbing out the passenger side window. Lucky I've got thick skin .

No need to apologise - sometimes it's hard to remember to try the simple stuff first.

I'd go buy a can of sprayable white grease and **** the crap out of that latch before I tried taking the door apart, that's all...

Yes, sometimes the latch is released but does not swing far enough to clear the post. Working in some lubrication is usually the answer. Lubriplate 1200-2 is a white grease that stays pliable in all weather. There is also a "red grease" that is excellent lubrication for door latches and hinges.

For those who have keyless entry and/or key pads, and very rarely use their keys to gain entry, they should lubricate the lock cylinders with silicone spray lubricant so that the lock cylinders do not sieze (including the trunk cylinder).

Tim, RangerJ, thanks 4 the advice. Hope it works. I'll get some 2-day. Worst case scenario is what?...whole new locking mechanism, door replacement?
