Has anyone here ever replaced their front door hinge stop rollers? Dorman (Help! products) sells a replacement roller with a new axle pin but it looks like there is just enough room to not be able to drive the new pin in without having to remove the entire lower hinge.

Support the door with a jack, lower rear most edge.
Remove the hinge to replace roller.
I did this on my 89 XR7 SC and it worked great.

I have, but I had the door and fender off at the time. The pin only has clearance when the hinge is slightly beyond the fully closed position. With the hinge attached to the body, the only way to install the roller pin is with the fender or door removed.

I've never removed the (body side) hinge from the car. Not quite sure how.

I made a shim out of a small piece of sheet metal and wedged it between the rubber "spring" and the A pillar. That closed up the gap between the worn wheel and the spring bumper enough to make it work properly.

iirc, the roller always hits on the stops on the same spots and gets flat spots on it. if you grab the roller with a pliers or similar and rotate it so it hits the stops at different positions, it is like having a new roller.

My roller looks more like a rounded off nut, there are flats all over it . One of these days I will remove the hinge and and fix it correctly.

Good advise. I am going to make this "adjustment" tonight or tomorrow. Thanks for passing it on.
