How hard is the donut gasket for the exhaust? IS this something I can do with regular handtools and ramps? I JUST got new mufflers put on it, and now of course the donut gasket goes south. Also, the trans was just out about 500 miles ago, so nmore than likely, they had to remove those bolts, right? What happens if I break the bolts off?

Where the tranny has been out recently, the pair of bolts/nuts that attach the catback to the Y should still be pretty easy to free up and probably reuse. Even if the bolts did break, they are cheap and not threaded into anything besides the nut. And yes, the donut gasket is an easy job.

My donut gasket went on my 90 and I brought it in and it costed $38 to fix that and have another thing done. It would have costed about $25 to get the doughnut gasket done alone, so really that isn't too bad.

I think the donut gasket is like around 5 bux. If your studs are getting nasty on the Manifold/y-pipe you can cut em and replace em. When we did my tranny a few months back those old studs got cut and replaced with homemade studs (cut from bolts from the Depot). When reassembling remember to always never-seize every nut and bolt you put back together. (Saves alot of time and effort down the road).

this is a super eassy job. I would replace the bolts and springs the new ones come with a wing on teh nut that hits teh exhaust and locks the nut to make it even easier to put back together. the donut is like 5 buck just like shoracer said I didn't know a part number and the guy at advanced couldn't find the one that would be right so they looked through and compared what I had to thier stock and found teh right size and shape alhought thats not that critical. if the threads look bad take a wire brush to them first. and it should come off easy. if I find my book I will get you the torque specs but I just cranked mine down hard no problems.
just found the kit on shonuts site
shonutperformance. its under the clutch heading and is call the V6 MTX Spring Kit (bolts/springs/nuts/split ******/donut gasket)its is <$22 and is probably a good deal.

The gasket costs $10 bux here.

I broke the bolts on accident (it was the first time they'd come off since the car was put together) and made some home-made style.... thumb

This job should take no time at all once you get the old ones loose, and since yours have been off recently, should be quick.

Wear some rubber gloves or something, your hands might get especially dirty on the pipes... :D

I had gone to a muffler shop here and they were going to charge me $30/with labor to replace the gasket... eek! So I went to Checkers and I bought the gasket for 6 bucks and I changed it myself.....it took about the same amount of time to change the gasket as it did to jack up the car....too easy thumb

Just went to Auto-Zone and they dont have one, it says not required? HELP ME! They said if I bring in my old one, they can match it up, but that would mean I couldnt do it all tonight as I had planned. Please someone help me out! I'm going to the NESHOC meet this weekend, and Id rather not make the hour or 2 drive without a good donut gasket (annoying!).
Thanks!

The install went well! Thanks to all for responding to such a petty post, but you dont know how simple something is, until you get the info and do it right? Thanks again Autosho!

Yes, I knew it was the donut gasket, because when I put my hands over the exhaust tips, (muffs just installed 4 days ago), I could see exhaust coming from the donut gasket area. Sounds great now, I was imagining a lengthy process, and although the bolts looked really bad they loosened right up, with no problem!
Thanks again!
