Yes, you have to remove the belt first. As far as which bolt, just look at it. It should be pretty self-explanatory. Don't forget to carefully disconnect the electrical connections to the alternator. Also, disconnect battery before beginning any work.

Another tip, if you can't get the alternator in, as I couldn't, I had to file the two side-by-side tabs down a bit. The ones that fit closest to the motor (something like a hinge design). If you do this, do it little by little, so you don't overdo it, and cover the rest of the alternator with a clotch of some sort, as to not get metal in it.

Rendyx, you also have an MTX, which is not the same as an ATX.
This is what I recommend you do...

1.Remove the battery hold down and battery.
2.Loosen the belt tensioner. (17mm) Remove belt.
3.Remove upper idler pulley. Now is a good time to check the bearings in it.
4.Disconnect wire harness and cable (10mm).
5.Remove two 12mm bolts securing the lower half of the case (belt side) and two on the upper half (top side).
6.Remove alternator.
7.Installation is reverse of removal.

SHO& VETTE,

Ah, the four bolts that hold it on! he, he, he, If you can be a PIA, I can be a wise a**! :D

Anyway, the pulleydoes not have to be removed in order to remove the alternator. You remove the belt by reducing the tension on the belt at the idler pulley/tensioner. See your other post wherein I discuss this process in depth.

Once you have the alternator removed, then the pulley can be swapped with your new or rebuilt alternator. I usually take the old alternator to the place where I get the replacement, and let them swap the pulley.

They want the old alternator as a rebuild "core" don't they? They usually want the box the replacement came in these days. I do not know what that's about!

Let us know how it's going. We're all rootin for you. When you kids complain about riding the school bus, do you ever tell them how you had to walk to school in snow up to your knees? wink rangerj
