On my 94, when you lift the door handle the dome light comes on. Is there away to prevent the dome light from coming on umtil the door is open. The reason behind this question is due to my car being broken into last week. I am sure someone had walked up to my car and lifted on the door handle to see if it was locked. When the door handle was lifted the dome light came on showing the contents of the vehicle. I know this won't stop someone who wants to see in the car since they would have a flashlight or something else. I thought if is was possible to by pass this function it would not hurt. Also, have any ideas on a car alarm. I would need something that has a remote pager due to me not being able to hear a alarm when I am in my house. Thanks.......

That's a very good point, unfortunately I have no clue on how to bypass that light. I believe that Viper has a remote alarm that goes on the keyfob and I've seen others that have them as well, but don't know how the quality is. If you go to a car alarm installation place they'd be able to lead you in the right direction. If you collect the info then you could post it up here and people could tell you their experience with them.

You can get a decent alarm with keyless entry at best buy for around $219 installed with lifetime warranty. The dome light/door switch can be deactivated. Any security installer can do it. Look for DEI product, it's available at most shops that carry security. They make everything, python, viper, sidewinder, avital, clifford, valet. You should probably also get a perimeter sensor (about $130) to create radar fields both inside and outside of the car. If anyone breaks the field it triggers a warn away, and/or the alarm. A battery backup is also a good idea so if the battery in your car ever dies, or is cut, the alarm still function (about $40).

If you look on the Remote Keyless Entry Module in your trunk, there is a wire which is White with a Light Blue stripe on it (The wire is connected to a very large black connector), just cut it near the module. Make sure to leave enough to reconnect it if you decide you need the function back. This will disable the door handle on both front doors.
