Ok, I can't seem to find this oddity posted here here but when I turn my dome lights off by the switch down on the left side on the dash when I'm in the seat and engine running, and turn the dome lights off...the doors lock.
Is this some feature that some have? It's no big deal and doesn't bother me, but just curious about it. Anyone else have this going on?

IF this is supposed to do this I can't figure out the purpose of the dimmer switch locking the doors if it is a factory option.
So what everyone needs to do this morning is run out and check their dimmer switches with the engine on and sitting in their car and try the dimmer switch and see if it locks the doors.
I need a full report by lunch!!!!! Lol.

I think it did at one time. It has a little red light mounted on the lower dash area but doesn't come on at all. I've been meaning to see where the wiring goes from there. So it could be possible when it had one it was wired into the lights?

My thought was, that the aftermarket alarm may have an automatic door lock feature, which is triggered by the dome lights going out (as in, when you close the door). Perhaps turning the dome light on and off manually triggers it as well?

Thanks Bob and that could be the issue. Like I said it doesn't bother anything that I can tell. It just seemed as little odd to say the least but I see no reason to get in and fix what aint broke...Lol

Rest at ease, it ain't broke. If you have keyless entry the doors will lock when you turn off the interior lights with the dimmer switch. The manual says they'll lock if the lights are turned on or off, but I believe it should read on AND off. I'm not sure which years are involved, but this is how my '95 works.

Sorry I didn't make the Lunch time cutoff:) Stan

Show Off, to add to your post, my 90 does it as well.

Mine also locks all the doors the first time the car goes into reverse, but not right when it is put in reverse, they lock when the shifter moves past neutral when coming out of reverse.

After that first time they don't do it everytime you put the car into reverse, but if you open the door with the engine running AFTER it's done it the first time, it will lock the doors when you close the door.

I learned this lesson the hard way when I bought the car.

is that normal? hehe
