Hey all. Real quick question. As I was sitting staring at my updated gen 3 screensaver last night I saw the picture of the taillight on Willie Orput's car. He has a silver car that has some kind of covering over the portion of the taillight that isnt functional. It body colored so it matches the car and I think it looks sharp as ****.

Is he a member here? If not does anybody know him?

I was just really curious what he did to the tail light to get that look. If someone know, or if Willie is a member I would sure love to hear what he did to get that look.

Thanks a bunch

brian
So so late on this guys! :nut:
Pretty much just about what godspunk32 said is the way it was done.
Although hers is not done like mine. hers is all night shades.
Here is a picture of everything I used except the blue tape. Its a very low stick painters tape and I didn't like it.
1: Take housings out.
2: Clean with rubbing alcohol and cotton balls to remove all the BS that might not allow the paint to stick.
3: Use the tan tape to cover the inside of the light where the tail light and turn signals SHOw. If you look at the tails you can see where it is and there is a small indention all the way around it where they are. This is when you have a steady hand and use the exacto knife and cut the tape. Also cover the rubber on the outside edges.
4: Now you put a few light coats of the car color paint on. A little time in between coats. Let it dry good.
5: Then some coats of clear. Pull tape off. Let it dry over night.
6: Now tape over everything and cut the center out.
7: Now spray the Nite Shades on. I think the can says about 3 different coats. I put on 4 and it came out pretty dark. Although I like it! :dribble: When it goes on wet it looks not that dark. But trust me it will darken up. Do all this at your own risk as in the pull over and maybe get a ticket thing. I have never been yet though. ;)
8: Put light back in and enjoy! :thumb:
I only cleared on the paint because it is made for that. I would not clear over the Nite Shades. It may affect it.
You will figure it all out as you go. Its easy!
You can always have fun and have a buddy over and do a little of this  And then give it a go and see how it comes out! :omg:
And Thanks for the compliments guys! :salute:

Was wondering if you would ever stumble across this thread. Thanks for the info, I think your lights look bad ass.

Thanks Brian! I do have to say you got my last name wrong :oogle: which is the way most people get it wrong. It is Orpurt and you would say it like this Or--purt. ;)
I did forget to say that you would take off panel on the trunk, although you could leave it on. And then of course do the cleaning of it and masking off the backup lights and cut with the exacto knife. You could mask off the reflector but I painted over it as you see. :dribble: Then paint and clear. And the Nite Shades come from www.summitracing.com
