does anyone else hate the Alcantara steering wheel

I've used boar's hair brushes, still didn't really help with the matting. I'm guessing there's a point of no return with this fabric once its been matted down enough?

The trick I’ve found with the boars hair brushes, as far as alcantara, is to get two brushes.

Cut the bristles of one about half way down.

What this does is gives you stiffer bristles as opposed to the long ones that are a not nearly as stiff, use the sonax listed, let sit for about a minute, and work in circular motions, wipe off with a clean terry cloth, rinse brush, then repeat.

Should bring the matting up.

The second brush is to brush off any loose particles.

Been doing this method since 04 with my Cobra with alcantara seats and hasn’t failed me yet. Seats always looked new.

the Alcantara wheel is a huge letdown in my opinion. It looks ok new but quickly looses that. It also doesn't feel good once its been used. I feel like ford dropped the ball on this one. All the high performance fords have way better options.

Took me about 30-45min but I used warm soap water with a toothbrush (as advised) and cleaned my steering wheel. The alcantara cleaned up nice. It's soft again but visually you can see the wear. Just thought I would pass that along.

My car just turned over 50,000 miles on a 2014 SHO PP with Alcantara wheel and it looks and feels like brand new!! All of you that say you hate it or having problems are eating greasy burgers and fries and then grabbing the wheel! There's no explanation why mine with 50k miles is perfect then there's these people saying it's horrible....??

I take care of mine for sure. Make sure my hands are clean and brush it periodically etc. I like it but the reality is the leather would be more practical.

I tried a few cars with the alcantara wheel and it just didn't feel luxurious or sporty. Maybe for some people but definitely not for this guy. For me it felt like a huge downgrade and was part of the reason I didn't want the PP.

I think the money from the PP would've been better spent on sportier suspension or an adjustable suspension rather than a steering wheel that adds nothing.

The PP does have better suspension.

Had the pp label on my springs and same part numbers on shocks with a non PP 2015. So idk what they changed except to use weaker trailing arms on the PP rear.

I should clarify when I said better....i meant something sporty. The land yacht abides.

You buy yours used? Other people can chime in here but the springs aren't the same, those along with dampers are different. And it wouldn't surprise me to see a manufacture rob parts bins during manufacturing to save money if non pp springs were used up, etc...

Yeah used. It was a leased vehicle used by a dealership. Around 30k miles on it when i bought it. Had all the maintenance records.

I bought mine used at 25K miles and the alcantra wheel was already all matted down and nasty.

I did clean it up with just hot water and a towel this year, but it still didn't feel that great. Its already getting to be a bit matted looking too, but that could be caused by work I suppose.

Mine is the same way. I actually enjoy it.

This thread reminds me of my '98 Mark VIII Collector's Edition. It came with a steering wheel that had bare wood trim at the top and bottom, padded only on the sides, and the upholstery was not perforated leather like the LSC. Since I had traded a '98 LSC for this Collector's Edition the difference was obvious, and not welcomed. But, the overall condition of the car was much better, so it was a good trade. Not every "special feature" is better.

I had a 2016 PP SHO, that I ended up totaling. I really didn't like the Alcantara wheel, or the seat inserts. The wheel was hard to make sure to clean, also use hand sanitizer everytime I got in the car. The seats seemed to run "Hot" with the inserts.
Today, I have another 2016 SHO, no PP. Love all leather wheel and seats, love the massaging and AC in the seats along with the frontal crash alert system / lane keeping systems. In general, I've been very impressed with this car having multiple BMW's, WRX's, EVO's in my past ....and, I have room for my toddler in the middle of the back seat!

I liked the feel more it was steam cleaned and treated, I usually like one hand at the top of the wheel, but my big pet peeve with the SHO is how limited the tilt is. I want to lower it another inch or so.

I'm in the Like category. We had tons of Limited's in the fleet and the steering wheel just felt generally slick to me. I give mine a light cleaning and quick hit with a suede brush once a year or two and it's fine still. Unless you have big sweaty dick beaters I don't see it being a problem at this point with 7years on it. That pleather crap they use on the side of the seat, now that's a problem.
