So I love my 2016 SHO with the performance package but I hate the Alcantara steering wheel cover. It just feels icky. I am just not sure I really want to hold it firmly like you should hold a steering wheel. I don't know what the designers where thinking when they made Alcantara an upgrade! Give me real leather any day.

When i bought mine, the alcantara part of the wheel actually felt really nice, and i loved it. But has since became dirty, and became very matted down over time. Tried to clean it a couple times with sonax, but no luck really. :frown:

You can get a brand new non-PP wheel for under $500. Seems like a lot, but you are touching the wheel 100% of the time you are driving it, so it's worth it IMO.

I don't have that problem. I keep my hands on the bottom of the steering wheel 90% of the time.

Try gently 'fluffing' up the material with a suede shoe brush. I find this really helps after periodic cleaning to stop it matting. I also will do it periodically sitting at traffic lights!

I've used boar's hair brushes, still didn't really help with the matting. I'm guessing there's a point of no return with this fabric once its been matted down enough?

Probably depending on the abuse and neglect although detailers' YouTube vids seems to suggest it is pretty robust.

Thanks for all the good comments like SM105K I find myself subconsciously holding the bottom or top part or the wheel because I hate the Alcantara feel, and it is not really that dirty. I think I am going to buy the non PP wheel as Eric suggest so I can enjoy driving in the 10 - 2 position again. Anyone have a link for the OEM part?

I'm with ya completely on this one man. Doesn't seem to be a lot of people with this opinion, but it was actually a big factor as to why I chose a non-pp car. Something about the feeling of alcantara or suede makes me uncomfortable and I can't stand it.

The Alcantara feel isn't problem with me personally. I keep my hands down near the bottom of the steering wheel because that is how I was taught.

I have an oem leather wheel from my 2015 Taurus SHO that im selling for $125. I actually bought a used PP alcantara wheel and am switching to it instead. Basically the opposite of what your doing.

Where did you order your PP wheel from and what was the cost?

How about a nice old fashion cover.
You can choose leather or cloth cover while you own it, and preserve the PP wheel.
