My shifter squeeks when moving side to side in nuetral or going up into first and second....is this something easy like greasing something or replacing a bushing?

I had that same problem too at one point. I stabbed it with a screw driver. He chewed through my seats, my wiring, my carpet.... I was pretty irritated to say the least.......

I also had the actual problem that you have.
When you look under the car, there is a black box that the rod shifter goes into(under the shifter handle). Drop the rod shifter out of the car and fill that about 1/2 to 3/4 full with wheel bearing grease or something and it will fix it. Alternatively, you can dissassemble that part of the shifter(which you have to any way to do the above) and just dab a little grease in the moving parts. The first option is a better idea as the noise will not come back immediately.
