95 MTX--last week it suddenly went into '4 cylinder mode'. Tach dropped about 2/3's, car ran like crap, figured it was the DIS, so I replaced the DIS with a new one. It started and ran just fine.

I drove it for a grand total of 2 days when suddenly the RPM's dropped, the car fought me to die (I tried to give it gas but it sputtered and died), and it wasn't able to restart. I thought maybe the new DIS was already bad, so I traded it under warranty for another. I installed the new DIS, but now it won't start. At all. It'll crank but won't start. I checked my grounds and they look okay as far as I know.

I did many a search and thought maybe it might be the CPS because it'll crank but won't start, but I'm not sure. Then again, I also thought it was the DIS because it went into 4 banger mode, and after I replaced it the problem seemed 'fixed', but then it went and died and won't restart anymore, even with another DIS. I even tried the old DIS, which would normally go into 4 cylinder mode, but it also doesn't work. The tach jumps to about 300 when it tries to start but just never 'catches.'

Does anyone have any insight on this before I go trading/buying parts again?

I have fuel and I ensured that when I turn the key to on, I can hear the fuel pump priming.

Spark plugs and wires are new, tried swapping out the coil pack but that made no difference.

If you don't mind me asking, what were the symptoms/problems you were experiencing?

As stated above, I'm leaning toward the CPS, but I guess I wanted to be sure before I try to replace it. Thanks for the post, btw!

random no start stall then not start then it would run 2-3 days then not start i ended up just doing a full 60k WAY TO MUCH MONEY.
cam sensor
crank sensor
water pump
timing belt & tensioner
valve cover gaskets
plugs & wires
cam seals
check adjustment on valves
clean the nasty dirty tank & runners
so i don`t know what sensor was the problem. the cam sensor is easy and inexpesive to replace.
