So my girl liked my 2013 sho and got one of her own about a month and a half ago. Had 96k miles on it. Runs great overall. Twice now though, it has died after applying the brake while in reverse to shift into drive. Right after dying/stalling, the tcs light comes on but does not stay on and no engine light. Mine has never done this. Was curious if anyone had experienced this and had a fix or a good idea of what the cause may be cause carmax doesn't lol. And @SM105K no lms tune was involved lol. Any help is greatly appreciated. Hope everyone is staying healthy :)
Thanks!

Check for codes. If you don't have a tuning device that you can use, go to an auto parts store and have them scan it.

Does it idle rough? I've never heard of that issue on these cars, but I've had other cars that weren't idling properly and would occasionally stall when it was put into gear.

No codes. Idles smooth. I've found similar issues in threads on other year makes and models. Some suggest it could be an idle control valve going out, bad o2 sensors or bad injectors. Then others suggest potentially a bad tcc valve in the transmission. Just not sure and neither is car max. It's only happened twice though in almost 2 months of daily use though. Which makes it pretty intermittent leading me to lean toward some kind of electrical issue which are almost always a pain to diagnose. *sigh* Idk...

Check the battery and cables. Kind of grabbing at straws, but we have known battery and corrosion issues that cause all kinds of mystery crazy crap and typically don't set codes like most hard failures. The only other thing I can think of would be a wire chafe that grounds out when the engine torques in reverse.

Will do bout the battery. I saw a similar suggestion on a another thread (again a different year make and model) about the wire grounding. I'll see if I can get under it and check that out too. Thanks

I have had similar issues with vehicles that have had bad tps or bad throttle motor. Most likely a bad spot on the tps that doesn't record the throttle position correctly.

I also suggest starting with the battery and cables. My ex-wife's former Lincoln LS would stall when applying the brake to shift from reverse to drive at the end of the driveway. There were no codes, no other symptoms, and it would only do that after the car hadn't been driven for several hours. Using a battery tester, the battery still tested "Okay" but had slightly higher than typical internal resistance. Grasping at straws I replaced the battery and immediately the problem was gone.

Yeah I'll probably start with that. Relatively speaking, it's a fairly inexpensive part to throw at the problem. I appreciate the advice. Stay healthy :)
