My 19 year old son and I went to Detroit this weekend for the North America International Auto Show. All I can say is Ford had the most impressive display I’ve ever seen. The new Fusion was on display as well as the more powerful Mustang GT500 (they actually did a dyno run on the stage).
Of course the new SHO was there. To be honest, I really liked the new grill, but hated the new wheels. In person they look like something that would be on a KIA. The interior has a few changes, but overall nothing that would make me trade the 2010 SHO or my two Mustangs for. I have to hand it to Ford, when it comes to Ecoboost, they are committed. Ford had a Ecoboost tear down area. The engines were the 3.5 twin turbo from the F-150 that had been run in durability testing. These were engines that they take apart, and then put back together throughout the show. I was very impressed with the lack of wear and tear on the components. Also, the tech doing the work was showing everyone how robust the parts and design are.
As for the show overall, 92,000 people came the first day. Good news for car guys.

Yeah, it's a shame those wheels look so bad on the SHO when they appear to look good on the Audi R8. I know it's two totally different wheels but they are pretty darn close in my book. I think that's the look Ford was going for though, who knows? I would slap the 2010 SHO rims on the 2013 SHO and roll with 'em! ;)

I hope they have the same exhibit at the Columbus International Auto show in March. Anxious to see this.

Mustang minor refresh, Taurus mid cycle refresh, totally new Fusion, totally new Escape, Focus ST and Focus Electric, and possible Fiesta ST, oh and the C-Max electric MPV. That's a decent number of lineup additions for 2013 MY.

yeah no. the Columbus auto show is about 1% as interesting as Detroit is. sadly it leaves a lot to be desired.

Man, way to crush my dreams! JK. I figured they would not have the same stuff. I have attended several times, and always leave saying that I'm not going back, but I may have to go again anyways! You never know!

The Ford display in Detroit is as big as the entire Columbus Auto Show. Detroit is like the Rose Bowl...Grandaddy of them all!

I went the Montreal Auto show, and yes, it was all about the turbo at Ford. They had the cut-a-way engine showing the details, but it was over in the F100 section. They scaled back the Mustang display, but the Lincoln area seemed to be a lot bigger. I don't know what that means, just an observation. A lot of exhibitors were pushing the electric vehicles, but not a lot of fanfare on those models. The glamour seems to have gone out of that market.
OK show, and it is nice to see the girls sharing the spotlight with the cars. For a few years, they got rid of the models, because they wanted us to think they were worried about going broke, but they are back.
I missed the new releases, and the factory futuristic models, and concept cars, because the show is not big enough to support them, but other years.... they at least had a few of them.

2013 wheels look like flower, blech.

^^^ this...those wheels are plain nasty. They're good if a women owns the vehicle since they look like a flower! No way I"d trade in my 2010 sho for this car.
ON another note...didn't read to much into this thread..is there a change on power output?

Nope, the engine output remains the same. The changes were cosmetics along with upgrades to the suspension, electronics(electric ps and stability control settings) and Performance Package features. Here's how Automobile Magazine described the changes for the 2013 SHO:

*The SHO will be distinguished from other Taurus models by a black mesh grille, black sideview mirrors, SHO badges behind the front wheels, and new 19" or 20" wheels.
*Of special interest, the all-wheel-drive SHO gets its own portfolio of improvements, including tweaks to its electric power steering and, most welcome, its brakes. The front brakes see a 19% increase in thermal mass capability and a 67% increase in the swept area. The rear brake discs are now vented and themselves offer a 53% increase in thermal mass, which effectively measures the rate at which the brakes can cool. "These changes give us huge improvements in fade resistance," says Taurus chief engineer Bill Gubing, "and also stopping distances."
*The SHO powertrain, a 365-hp twin-turbo EcoBoost V-6 and six-speed automatic, carries over, but the paddle shifting apparatus is different: "We re-engineered the way they shift," explains Gubing. "Each paddle [left and right] used to have the ability to go up and down. We got a lot of feedback from our customers that they really wanted one paddle dedicated to down and one paddle dedicated to up. So it's now more like a race car-inspired shifting pattern. The right paddle is for upshifts, and the left paddle is for downshifts."

:salute:
