Defroster vent gauge mount

With all this free time on my hands, I decided to work on a gauge mount for the driver side defroster vent. I have it modeled to hold a Ngauge tuner but altering to a standard gauge pod or something else would be easy enough. The hard part of replicating the vent is done. I have not finished the retention tabs yet, I printed to confirm fitment, so it sticks up a little from the dash. Here's what I have so far.

I'm thinking where the A-pillar meets the right edge of the dash. The N-gauge wire is flat like telephone line, should be easy to route.

mine routes down the a pillar through the kick panel to the OBD. all you see is the 6" of wiring going from the pillar to the current windshield mount.

As I said on the other post, I'd love to over these once refined. seems to be pointing toward the center console a little more than I'd really like, but could just be the angle of the pic.

The angle is 10 degrees from square with the vent. Once the newest print finishes, I'll take pics from above to help get a feel for the angle

That looks really good! Seems like its pointed right at the driver, which should make it really easy to see/read.

I ordered ABS filament, PLA is too fragile for a piece like this.

Yeah, would be bulky and could put a lot of non-centered stress on the vent clips.

After multiple prints with multiple filaments, I think i'm going to move to multi-jet fusion (a type of laser sintering) printing for the final product. The fused deposition prints are delaminating under any type of stress (i.e. installing or removing the vent). The prototype shows good fitment though, just not strong enough for my taste.

Update on the gauge mount. SLS printing done, part looks great but there was some shrinkage with the ABS material that i did not account for.


This means the clip that retains the N-gauge is not grabbing as well as I would like, that's all. here are some pics of the final piece.
