I just purchased a set of Team Dynamic Pro Race 1.2 17X8 from Shonut.
I want to use 245-45 tires, but I cannot get expensive tires. What would be a decent performance for the street, low cost tire, that I could get?

I don't care if they have a short life.

Kumho 712's....????
I know that they arent the best of the best.... but they can hold their own...
and at 89.99 each from jegs... you cant beat that... well maybe...
that is your 245-45-17zr rated tire.
i have heard mixed things, but if you want a cheap "performance" tire, those look ok...

nice. i've always wondered if they were good or not, but i know nothing about tires other than hat thier ratings tell me.

i'd define cheap performance tires that as: whats the best type of tire i can buy for around the same amount as i'd spend on "normal" tires, as in i dont see much point in spending 200 bucks a tire.

It is worth spending the extra money for Yokohama ES100s over the Kumhos.

I agree with Dan H. I've been pretty happy with my ES100s, especially for the price. I've read that the Fuzion ZRis are decent, but I've no experience with them.

I went with the avon all season, I can't vouch for the summer only tires which the ES100's are. Snow, rain, dry, autox they work well, but... they are on the heavy side for a tire (~28 lbs for a 225/55/16.) If I get all seaons again I'd probably go with the more expensive PZero Nero's at 19 lbs for the same dimensions.

Went to the Tirerack web site and checked the prices and specs on the Yoko's $117.00.

Also found a cheap $99.00 Sumitomo HTRZ II, Which received a very good rating in comparison with other tires.

I just want a tire that I can beat up while I get my supension all dialed in.

However, the Avon tires seem to have the best bang for the buck, $120.00 ea.

Does anybody have any experience with these?

Thanks.

Don't have any experience with the avon's, but my last set of tires were the Summitomo HTRZII's and I currently have the Kuhmo 712's and both were on my 17x8 Fittipaldi rims(235/45-17). Both tires are very decent for the ~$100 price. The Summitomo's had way more grip than the Kuhmo's, but also wear a lot faster. I probably got about 10-12,000 miles out of the Summitomo's and possibly 20,000 out of the Kuhmo's. You can see how I drive my car in my sig, so take into consideration that I drive the car pretty hard all the time. If no cars are in front of me off an off ramp, I am usually at full tilt. Both tires were excellent in the rain, easily being able to go over 100 mph in poring down rain without hydroplaning(when they were new of course). Also, the Summitomo's lost very little traction in turns in the wet. My corner speeds on turns that I go through all the time were only down by around 5-8 mph in the wet(after it had been raining a while and the initial greasy slipperyness had gone away) as opposed to the dry. The Kuhmo's want to slide more in the rain than the summitomo's, but still hold there own. If you aren't worried about mileage, then I would get the Summitomo's. I am going to need new tires shortly and I havn't looked over what's currently available, but if there isn't anything in the $100 price range then I will be getting the summitomo HTRZII's again.

Will

EDIT: I just checked the price on tirerack and the Summitomo HTRZII's are only $89 a piece. Can't beat that. Dry traction is rated at 8.6 -- that's rated by 482 surveys. Hey there's a gymnasium full of people saying these suckers have grip.

I have these tires and I'm very happy with them.

I had el-cheapo crapola tires before these, if I dared to floor it the tires would spin for literally 5-6 seconds.

Now, I just hear a chirp and its off.

Another tire to consider are the Hankook RS-2 at Discount, which are stickier than the 712's (Treadwear of 200 vs. 330) and are nearly the same price. The 225/50/16's were $98. I use those on the track and am VERY happy with them...

I just purchased 4 of the 225/55 HR16 BFG Traction T/A Radials from Tirerack. They had the highest ratings across the board for traction and handling. I just recieved them yesterday. The compound is noticeably softer then a standard radial tire. I wasn't concerned about wear, I wanted the best performance. I'll give the full report once they are mounted and the car is aligned.

Well I finally ordered the Avon's Tech500 in 245/45R17. I have been reading every review on the internet that I could find, and these seem to offer the best compromise for my driving habits.

I had never heard of the Avons and so had very few tire companies here in Miami. I finally had to order them from tire rack.

Thanks NJSHO for the heads up on these. Let's see how the live up.

You can only order AVONs from Tire Rack, that's why no other place has heard of them. Let me know if you like 'em.

I like the BFG g-force sports I just put on. They were ~340 a set delivered from discounttire.com in the 225/55/16 size. Good balance of sidewall stiffness and comfort, and they're nicely sticky after warming up.
