BFG Traction T/A's - My wife's Stratus ES 2.7L Autostick went from "This car is scary to drive!" to "I love my car!"

I'm running BFG G-Force KDW's from Sams Club. Got video of me out-handling a 911 Carerra at Lime-Rock...

I've run Avon tires before with great sucess. Just not on SHO's.

They used to be available through a couple of local dealers, but then Cooper, who was redistributing them, didn't renew the agreement.

I would have a report on these tires by now but one of the first 2 I had a friend mount for me refuses to seat properly. Over 60 lbs of air, **** and a sledge hammer... nothing.

Look into the Fuzion ZRi, very very good for the price.

:thumb: I have a set on my supercharged 351 stang and they hook pretty good for economy tires! They will go on my SHO when the Schwabbie specials are finally bald

The best performance mod IS tires! Everything you ask the car to do (power, brake, steer, corner) is accomplished through, and limited to, the tires. You could take the position the rest of the car is simply there to make the tires work!

Just MHO, but I'll never understand why folks "mod" up their car and then cheap out on tires!

235/45/17 would work nice on those 17x8" rims

Potenza S-03
Kumho ECSTA MX
Yoko AVS Sport
Potenza RE750
Dunlop SP Sport 8000
GY F1
BFG Gforce

The ES100 (ran a set on my 92) had decent grip, but they are intended for a lighter car. I found them to wear pretty quickly, uneven, and got REAL loud with age.

Well, I was not looking for cheap tires. I wanted a low cost, high performance tire.

I ended up buying Avon Tech500 in 245/45/17. They have been rated very high in the Tire Rack web site.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyresults/surveydisplay.jsp?type=UHP

I paid $120.00 ea. for them plus $50.00 shipping, plus, spacers (which I am making myself), balacing, alingment, etc., etc.

I am having some interference problems with this size, but I am sure that I will be able to solve them.

I have not been able to wring them out yet, since they are rubbing. Probably the 235/45/17's would have been a better fit.

These are definetly better than the BF Goodrich's I had on before.

I'm thinking about these. They aren't the best but seem to be an ok tire for the price.
fuzion HRI 225/55R16 95H

Getting them for around $70 a peice lol. I might still go for the traction T/A's but they are gonna cost me $110 a tire. Remember I work in a tire shop and I get a little price brake.
I have GoodYear Eagle RS-A's on right now, i'm hopeing these will be better.

I paid $99 a piece from tirerack.com for the 225/55 HR16. Nice price break they are giving you there.

I didn't check tire rack's price. He gets his tires from American Tire. I dunno what they cost him but I don't think it would be that much more than what he told me.
Either way I'm getting them on credit so it don't bother me much if he is chargeing more.

Did you get a warranty? Did that also include mounting and balancing? Valve stems?
For the $110 a peice I am getting it all.

Well, so far I am very happy with the Avon Tech500's. They fill the wheel wells completely, handle very weel in the rain, and have very good street manners.

The Avon 245/45/17 tire is the biggest size that can fit under the SHO, without drastic modification. The wheel/tire combination has given my SHO a very different personality. The car now feels very sure footed and stable. The ride is not harsh at all, it is firm without being annoying. I can feel the suspension move.

My SHO is finally becoming the car I had dreamed of. I had forgotten how important the wheels and tires were. My SHO was definitely harsher with the old GF Goodrich's that I had before.

All the mods that I have been making to my SHO over the last couple of years have now come together, and I am very happy with the results.

No bling bling here:

Still not finished modifying though. My goal is street performance without sacrificing too much comfort.

I went the all season route with the p-zero nero's and by far the best all season tire out there that I've ever used; Dunlops 5000's were horrible; traction TA's too harsh and noisy; these tires are very smooth and quiet and corner well with the stiff sidewalls, but still not an ultra high performance summer tire.

I'm looking at the BFG Traction TA's for mine when I get around to putting the slicers on it (right now it has Gen I 15" lattice wheels)

By the way, the inside my Avons rub against the subframe under a full wheel lock turn.

I just got a set of 205/40-17 & 245/40-17 Kumho MX's for my 911. Excellent tires, especially given the pricing - bought locally, mounted, balanced, alignment & all the bells & whistles (stems, disposal for non-existent "old" tires - I brought them bare rims), was ~$650.

I should have gone slightly larger on the fronts (215/40 if available would have been nice), and it turns out I could have gotten 255/40-17's on the back without batting an eyelash. Oh well.

These tires have much larger blocks than my favorite, Toyo T1-S. They're as quiet too. I'll find out how they are on the track on Tuesday at Lime Rock.

Another tire to consider are the Hankook RS-2 at Discount, which are stickier than the 712's (Treadwear of 200 vs. 330) and are nearly the same price. The 225/50/16's were $98. I use those on the track and am VERY happy with them...

I have HR2 405's by Hankook, they were pretty much the cheapest, unidirectional tire I could find, there were a few others in similar price range but this had the most tread depth(for my particular size) and highest treadwear rating(I think its 340), I run them at 40psi, you could go higher, it says max 44psi........

I paid 66 bucks through Pep Boys a tire, this is after a discount through a mechanic shop....

before I was running cheapo 205-70-14's and it made a nice improvement with the new setup.

I currently run 215-55-16 on Slicers
