Jeremy,

I believe if you perform a search you'll find a lot of information. Search for: "BOO" or "Brake on off switch". I don't have the website handy for the online repair guide, nor do I have my chilton's handy. I believe the switch is white and it is actuated when the brake pedal is pushed down so if you look near the brake pedal you should see it. It should be towards the steering column IIRC.

you will prob have to go to the dealer for the switch, but it is very easy to install. Look up at the top of the break pedal for the small connector with two wires comming off of it. Remove the screw or retaining clip and replace in the reverse order. Hope it fixes the problem. GL

would the switch be considered broken if when you press the pedal it doesnt work but if you manually pull the switch it does work?

best way to tell if it is bad is to simply touch the two leads together and see if the brake lights come on. If they do then you most likely have a bad switch. They really arent adjustable and should make a complete circuit (the brake lights come on) when just barely depressed. Some brake light switches are "reverse" switches meaning that they activate when they are released. Not sure about the 89. Good luck.
