Went to dive the car today jumped in and went to start it, but there was no dash lights and a ticking under the driver's dash. Popped the hood and there seems to be a ticking sound under the fuse box. Had a lot of trunk open time and opening doors since it was last started when I was fitting the trunk carpet(after the alky meth install). I haven't tested the battery but I've never experienced these sounds with a dead battery. Kinda sounds like a relay clicking. Is this a dead battery or something else? Ideas and experiences welcome.

Possibly a dead battery, these cars eat thru them like no car I've ever seen before. Maybe take the battery to an auto parts store and have them test it?

These cars hate it when accessories or lights are on and not running. One time I was at an appointment waiting for someone and had the radio on, message came up about car going into battery saving mode and radio turned off lol. I use a battery tender whenever I know I'll be messing with something and car not running. They're very inexpensive compared to a Battery.

I work at a local auto parts store lol. So I went and grabbed the tester today. Reading was just under 4 and under load goes all but dead flat. Installed January of 2018. Time to shop for a battery it seems.

Dang 2018 is a heck of a run on one of these cars. I stopped waiting for mine to die, two winters and I would replace it before the third.

I still haven’t taken my 1989 to a shop for their thorough diagnostics but I find when I put a trickle charge on at home and switch it off for the night, the next day it charges much higher than when I stopped. On both my 1989 and 2013. As my shady tree guy told me, these cars use a lot more electricity than you’d expect.

I had a guy argue with me that he didn't want to replace it under warranty because there was no way a car could eat through a battery in under 2 years and in the ten'ish years he had been there he had never seen one come back so dead, I said I'd like to talk to the manager because I was told it didn't matter why the battery went dead, the manager looked at him and said replace the battery. I walked out with a new battery.

I had to take it out of the car and bring it in because it wouldn't even start the car by jumping it. They had never seen a battery so dead. Our cars can **** them like none other!

That's not right. You wouldn't have had any argument from my coworkers. It may not be normal, but I've seen batteries that are useless after as little as 14 months.

My solution to the problem arrived today! Might be a coating of snow tonight and was quite windy/rainy this evening. So I'll likely do it tomorrow or Friday eve. I figured it was a good excuse to save weight. Unfortunately I'll need a winter full size for my climate. 550 CCA isn't going to cut it if I need to run it mid winter.

Biggest issue is that people dont reset the BMS correctly. Best way is to do it through Forscan or have ford do it. All the simple tricks dont do it correctly.
Your battery is 3 years old, you get a new one. BMS still thinks the new battery is 3 years old so it charges the battery as if it was 3 years old. Thats why they go through batterys. Yet someone can buy a 2013 model with the oem battery never replaced and its fine for 5+ years.
I hear it from Ford techs all the time. Its pretty much all their lineup for 10 years or so. Not getting the battery system reset correctly when replacing a battery.

Its a dynamic charging system that works with the lifespan of the battery. If you replace the battery that has been in the car for 5 years and dont reset the bms like you do an oil reset. Its going to charge the battery in a way that a 5 year old battery needs charged. Which is too ******* a “new” battery and its why they go through batteries faster after replacing the stock old battery. Just to reiterate, its a confusing subject of how it works. Id rather the charging system not be dynamic. But in the end it is a better system.

Wow you cant say h ard on. Even spaced as 2 words. Goodnight internet, cancel culture got to this site real good…

I bought a new 2001 Lightning and the original battery lasted a good 6 years. But it was getting weak, so I bought a new MotorCraft battery for it. In about 1 1/2 years time, it went bad. Had it load tested and it had a dead cell in it. First time I ever had a battery fail so quickly. But obviously, it happens.

I have an '18, I had to replace the OEM battery in '20, I don't think that was a reset issue. I had them reset the battery when I swapped it out in '20, but then I had to replace it again in '22, it seems like 2 years is the going rate for this car. :) Which is weird, because most batteries I have last way longer, I'm not sure why these cars eat them up so fast.

It is pretty simple. Either the batteries are getting worse, or the SHO likes to eat batteries. I am banking on the latter.

I bought my SHO in 2015. I bought my first new battery (Diehard AGM) in 2016. I bought my second battery (another Diehard AGM) in 2019. I keep my car on a Battery Minder whenever it is parked in my garage, which is 99% of its life.
My Mustang has no AGM battery option that I can find, except Optima, which I refuse to use. It requires a new battery every couple years (six batteries since 2000.)
My Torino Cobra uses a reproduction AGM battery, which I first bought in 2004, and replaced last in 2009. 12 years on one battery? Yes, it's a miracle.
The secret is the Battery Minder. (A Battery Tender cooked one or two of my Mustang batteries.)

Guess I never thought about it, because my '15 is only on it's second Motorcraft battery, installed by the dealer. It sits in the garage in Ohio all winter when we are in Florida, and the last time we were there was at Christmas. One of the remodelers needed to move the car in late April, and it started right up!
Before I retired, I sat in the car and ate lunch, listening to the radio, from 2015 thru the end of 2019, all on the original battery. Replaced at the dealer in 2020. For what it's worth.

Costco Interstate Batteries - 3 Year Warranty - however rip and replace. No questions asked.
