My windshield now has a few inch crack in it that starts near the pillar. There are no signs of road debris hitting it, and it's gotta be within the past day or so that it happened. Is has been warmer out lately. I wonder if the glass was just old and really took a beating this past winter. Suggestions? How much does it cost to replace a windshield? Is there something that I can buy to prohibit the spreading of the crack?

I had mine replaced at Safelite Auto Glass, I'm pretty sure they're a nationwide company. It costs me less than $190 and took them 25 min to replace. I noticed my 95 had the factory "solar tint" which the replacement is not. I figure who cares, b/c it helps my radar detector do it's job better. :)

Depending on what you have for insurance coverage, your insurance MAY pay for it. I get a new windshield every couple of years courtesy of my insurance company. Even if it is not broken, it still gets pits from many miles of highway travel. The pits tend to scatter the sunlight, making it more difficult to see.

hmm, wish i had looked into safelight. i broke mine last month. had the hood off and when i was bolting it back on the corner slipped and slammed into the bottom of the windshield. oh well. cost me about $250 here in my area, but they come to your house and do it here, so its less of a hassle. takes about an hour. im sure there would be one around you that makes "house calls".

I just got mine replaced too after having my winshield have a nasty spider crack for like 8 months. It cost me only $100 through my insurance for my deductiable instead of being like $360 if i didn't have insurance.

I'd leave it alone unless it obstructs your view or inspection is coming due. When you replace it shop around. I found almost a $100 difference between the various companies.
