Like they all already said. Do a 60k first. Its not that hard. Get a manual, do some reading on the forum, and set a side a weekend to do it. Get the 'front' side done. Worry about the valves after.

And like many of us on here, dont learn the hard way about a differential pin.........
Stay away from hard starts/ clutch drops/ burnouts. I found out the hard way after I put a tennis ball size hole in my trans case in my first SHO.

My SHO has been very reliable it has never left me stranded well thats not true i blew my clutch up two blocks away from my buddies house but other then that it has been a dream

i love this car

its not as scary as people make it seem

i honestly dont feel like people make this car seem hard to work on

i am not mechanically advanced at all and i seem to be picking up how to work on the SHO's pretty easy

you just got to get dirty sometimes :thankyou:

that's cool. thanks for this post. and it's not that people make it seem like this car is hard to work on. they just make it seem like i'll be workin on it all the time. i don;t mind gettin dirty i'm just not up for one thing after another until i eventually get so frustrated that i ghost-ride it off a cliff.

ok, that's encouraging. it puts things in a different light. i guess the thing i hadn't really figured out (because i'm a ******* by trade), is that lots of the guys in here having to fix stuff allof the time have increased the power output by 25% or more.

i don't mind putting in maintenence work and whatnot. i'm already looking forward to the first few things i'm going to do to her. but i'm not contemplating increasing the hp at this time because it's more important for me to count on this baby as a daily driver.

i'm quite content with this car's current power output. i've already had a few guys ask me about it. SHO's are a very rare breed and apparently, there's lots of guys in this world that get excited when they see one. i'm as proud as a new daddy of her and when she finally tells me her name, we'll be like peas and carrots till the end. i get attached to cars and i can see this one already has me right where she wants me :)

and yes, this taurus definitely hauls some serious ass!!

I like that one!

even the front 60k doesn't need to be done, you won't harm ANYTHING by not doing it, now you could, possibly, one day save yourself a tow bill, but thats about it......

worse case scenario theres nothing on the front you could damage that you wouldn't replace anyways

ok, i'm really liking the way this thread is slowly evolving from mortifying to encouraging. the one thing that has been constant all the way through is that you guys all love your cars as much as i love mine and that just can't be wrong.

it looks like i'm going down to san antonio to meet a fellow SHO guy and master tech tomorrow to take a look at another SHO and have him take a look at mine. after that i'm sure i'll be on much better footing with how my relationship with this little sweetheart is going to go.

oh and one more thing, i'll be more than happy to repay anybody's kindness in here with stock and bond market investment advice upon request. ****, even if i don't owe you one, go right ahead and ask me ;)

check you laters.

dont get discouraged at all about these cars. i was infected about 5 years ago and in my opinion these yamaha motors are some of the most dependable motors out there. in most cases the motors out live the cars. the main thing for me is finding a good rust free chassis and then doing any maintenence that the motor might need. if i came across a SHO that was rust free, had a decent interior, and was a color combo that i liked it wouldnt bother me one bit if the motor had 200k on it if it was the right price. as with any piece of machinery if you neglect it or abuse it, it will bite you in the ass. this motor is pretty good at letting you know when something needs attention. if you know your oil needs changing dont rev it up to 7k rpms. i have owned around 10 SHOs since my first one and i have loved everyone of them. i have never had any major problems with any of my SHOs, but you will have to invest some money in them from time to time just because they are older vehicles. in my opinion it is better to spent $1000 a year in maintenence and insurance on my SHO than it is to spend multipal thousands on a car payment for something newer that wont be anywhere as fun to drive.

.... i get attached to cars and i can see this one already has me right where she wants me :) ....

LOL. You have no idea. My first car is still sitting 2 hours away in my parents yard with plans to (eventually) fix it back up. A 1983 el camino, bench seat, 305 w/ a 4bbl, 3-spd auto, and MASSIVE body roll. But I absolutely love that car!
My first SHO was a 1998 I owned for four months. Then I got into an accident with a guy that didn't have insurance and it ended up being totaled.
After that, I would always look and look and look for them. I was in school then so didn't have enough money, but after a summer intership guess where the money I made went. :omgsho:

I should probably see a psychiatrist about it, but its not hurting anyone in the long run... except my wallet. :laugh_ti:

yeah man, it didn't long for this car to let me know that i was her bitch now. usually i prefer the dominant position in a relationship but it's already obvious to me that she don't like it like that. and for once, that's fine with me :)
