....Stereo doesn't work at all either, will look there later. Whats up with the climate control? Mine stays on all the time. All features work except Off anf fan control. I'm hoping the unit is bad and I don't have wiring gremlins. Do regular Taurus's have these same units? If not will anything else replace it, or must it be the exact same unit? I have never seen the inside of a Taurus until yesterday, when I bought my 90 SHO.

Sounds to me like you may have a blown fuse with your stereo. But there could be other problems.

You can run a self test on the climate control to see what you come up with problem wise. More than likely it's the unit itself. I'm not sure if regular Tauri have these same climate controls or not. There are other units that can replace them with a little modification. OhioSHOdude I think is the one who did it with one from a Ford Explorer or something like that and it looked excellent!

I had a 90 Sable with the auto climate control. The blower would come on high only for about 10 seconds, then shut off. If I turned it off and back on, it would do that again.

It was the speed controller for the blower motor, I seemed to remember Ford calling it the "blower switch" or something similar. They have a big heatsink, but they still apparently have a lot of heat-related problems that make 'em crap out. I'm not sure if that's your problem since your symptoms are a little different, but they are a relatively common issue.

I forget how much Ford wants for them, but a SHO, high-end Taurus/Sable or Continental will have the same autoclimate too if you want to search in a junkyard. A lot of Fords have them and those might work too, but I know for a fact that those 3 models share a compatible EATC system.
