I tried searching and, surprisingly, didn't find anything. Anyway, my 2011 non PP has the front driver's side cv joint going out. The dealership wanted almost $500 to do it, so I decided to do it myself.

I figure it should be just like a FWD cv shaft, but not positive. Going to order the part and change it next week. Anybody replaced a cv? Have any tips? Are there any better aftermarket shafts available, or is fomoco our best option?

Check a company called Raxles.com

I did good business with them for wife's Subaru. Don't know if he does Ford's or not.

Ok guys, I really need some help here. My front left axle is really starting to make some noise, and I don't know what part to order. I talked to parts guys at a couple dealerships and they didn't really seem to know either.

Ford parts website has 2 parts, both listed as front right axle shaft.

The first one is
PN: 3B436 (TX-675)
Dimensions: 55"x4.63"x4.63"

Second one is
PN: 3B436 (TX-594)
Dimensions: 25"x4"x4"

So both are listed as front right axle shaft and both have the same part number. Only differences I can see (on Fordparts.com) is the numbers in parentheses, dimensions and a small difference in price.

So which one do I need? I'm assuming one of them is supposed to be front left, but is mislabeled as front right. I need a front left (drivers side) axle shaft

Well, I am not sure either. I usually use the fordpartsgiant.com site when I have a question fordparts.com does not answer.

I am guessing that perhaps the pass side assembly would be number DG1Z3B436-A, perhaps. At least it seems to be listed for the 2013+. Otherwise remanned parts for the pass assembly can be had from Cardone and maybe other mfrs.

Thanks SHOdded. As always, you are and endless fountain of SHO knowledge. This info puts me about 10 steps ahead of where I was this morning.

Depending on how the search is working, the difference might be if it's looking at all wheel drive or not. Left half shaft is probably the same, but the right side has the PTU bolted to the trans on the AWD SHO, so my assumption is that the AWD half shaft, and or, intermediate shaft is going to be shorter than the FWD Taurus.

Thanks to everyone. I'm glad this thread finally got some traction. I was really starting to get uptight about finding the correct axle. I've had quite a few parts store guys and Ford parts guys basically say "I could get you a FWD axle for sure, but I'm not sure it's the same as the awd."

I really appreciate all the support everyone lends on this forum. I hope someday I can return the favor.

Ok. Axle is ordered from fordpartsgiant.com (thanks SHOdded). Planning to put it in Thursday if it shows up by then.

Anybody know the front axle nut size?

Alright, one more question on this topic. Does the cv act as a seal in the ptu? Like is ptu oil going to come flowing out when I pull the axle? If that is the case, I think I'll try to flush the ptu with the axle removed. Seeing as how my ptu has no drain plug, this seems like a perfect time to do a good flush without needing an evacuation pump.
