Im going to strip my interior out. gone.

What i want to ask is if any of the wiring in the dash is tied into the main harness and going to cause problems. Like if i cut the wiring for the air bags or the factory gauges would it affect the computer at all? Ive heard of some cars that if you take something out that is a part of the monitoring system (tach, oil pressure ect.) that it might send the computer into limp mode.

thanks for any answer i can get

I don't know any in the sho, but be realllllly careful what you cut. I unplugged my electronic gauges from my 69 mustang (the stock ones) to put in mechanic gauges, long story short when i did that my alternator stopped charging. I cant imagine what cutting the wrong one would do to a car with a computer:rofl:

Cutting wires under the dash in an effort to save weight will absolutely cause you grief. It is okay to unplug wire connectors from various components. There are lots of splices inside the harness. Some of them are VERY necessary. Only cut out wires, one at a time, that you know for sure are no longer needed.

im not cutting wires only to reduce the weight, im going to run my own tachometer and vital gauges. The only wires i would be cutting are the ones that are not being used. For example, i was thinking remote start with a switch on the fuel pump circit so i could eliminate stock ignition. it weighs enough to benift. belive me, ive done this stuff on other cars, when you can eliminate the lightest ammount and you skip it, you will skip other parts too. then you will want to go back and tear it out anyways. ive already got my mind set.

so I was gonna do the cutting wre thing to reduce weight. Im thinking all trace of stereo, ac, power steering, secondaries, interior lighting, some exterior lights, factory alarm, power seat wiring. An more ideas please tell me.

Im gonna make a list of all compenents Im ripping out as soon as I have every wiring harness for the car labeled. about half way right now. Im thinking start with the power disturbution to the things I took out.

Also gonna run all my new guage wiring while in there, and thinking about relocating some control modules placed in easily visible places.

You can just as easily unplug the harnesses. It may take a little longer to fish some of them back through the firewall but in the long run you will be much better off. Most of the firewall harness ends about 1 foot into the engine bay anyway. Also if it's a 2nd gen with an underhood fuse panel you should be able to just unplug it from the firewall.

well so far Iv got 3 harnesses out from under ther hood though their mostly data lines, Uuhh!!! Still have to remove the dash to get that last foot out of the engine compartment. To do that though requires removal of the dash...something which im dreading.

So how would this custom dash look and how much would it weigh? Could you make a dash just for the to hold a couple components the driver needs(wheel, guages, cd player)? Then hide everything else under this small dash. Therefore the passenger nothing but a flat wall straight ahead.

Also deleting air bag system, power antenna (goes with radio), eatc, windshield wipers and sprayers, and possibly power steering. I probably should have tried driving without power steering before I stipped it down. Is the steering rack capable of having no power steering? Though it'll be a b*tch to turn, that would mean one less pulley for the crank to turn.

Soooooooooooo if I was to have no ac, power steering, or water pump (replaced with an electric temp controlled pump Of course)? Would that mean I could probably also get rid of at least one of those idler pulleys? Although with only two pulleys belt angles would be extreme./././.

your gonna need a water pump there bud. im kinda lost on whats going on in your post, it comes at 400 mph and i cant quite figure it out but so far,

yes you can remove the ps without problems, it just wont be easy to drive. be tough and make some muscle. as for me, this is my daily driver that i am modding. i can live without ac, heat, radio ect. but i need the ps, people who drive around here are morons, and i need the ps to make that 12 point turn into the parking stall i want.

and i think thats what ill do, just start unpluging things, see if it affects it, if not it will soon be gone.

This is going to be the begining of a long time of headaches, tuning, and a whole lot of fun.

The dash is really quiet easy, especially if you already have the seats and console/shifter out. The biggest problem with removing the water pump is that the housing is and integral part of the piping system.

ya point made with the water pump. Im pretty sure I need more than two pulleys anyways to not mess up a belt. Power steering will probably be more of a drain that the water pump. And figuring a way of controlling pump speed is harder than with a belt going the speed of the engine. Well got to get start ripping the dash out. this is gonna suck.....
