Could someone walk me through how to take just one coil off a spring? I've got a gen 1 and -1 coil seems to make the front look a lot better due to the difference in wheel well height front to rear. I'd hate to cut off too much as B&G has not been very....forthcoming with their production.:thankyou:

Depends on what springs you have.

Stock springs, don't cut.

The lowering springs for these cars have dead coils on top, that when the weight is on the car they are fully compressed together, so removing one just makes it lower. So starting from the end of the pig tail and going around one full revolution would be -1 coil.

Only cut from the TOP of our springs

also, if you are cutting B & G's, which are already lower than stock, spacers should be added to the steering rack mounts to reduce the offset, which will reduce bump steer.

I wouldn't cut a coil if your using sensa tracs.. those tend to bottom out to easilly. You may be better off lowering the strut in the knuckle.

How much does that lower it? You can do that with the front and back right?

How ever low you drop it.. do a search here..

Thats not true and I have.you can only drop it so low before the strut hits the tire.the question is how low is that and I've only seen people talk about doing it to the rear.why is everyone so damn quick to respond to a question with ""do a search""you could have answered the question easier than typing do a search.also this forum sucks for searching or trying to bring up old post.I do a search and get like two threads or I go under a certain section and there is only two threads listed and your be lucky if you get any kind of helpful response to a question.

I think my car is dropped 1/2" in the knuckle all around, but I'm also running a smaller than stock overall diameter tire. If I put stock tires on I rub the strut perch. I could however do some grinding on a certain spot and gain a little more clearance. If i needed to.

Cutting a coil would drop it the length of the coil. The first two coils are dead coils and are only there for height. Look at how thick one coil is and thats the added lowering you will get.

also, if you are cutting B & G's, which are already lower than stock, spacers should be added to the steering rack mounts to reduce the offset, which will reduce bump steer.

If running cut springs you will want to drill the welds on the mounts or start using adjustable mounts in order to get everything lined up properly.

My 91 has cut Eibachs on SensaTracs right now with no ill effects. It would be better to have Konis or Tokicos but Sensas would do just fine for an everyday application.

I have never personally lowered any in the knuckle so that's why I said search, because I have no knowledge of what's required other than it can be done. My apologies.

Chad, Tim ran intrax/sensatrac and the struts were great for a while then they slowly started to become weak. It can be done, but since the strut isn't powerful enough, cutting the coils shortens its life from my experience with them.

So sounds like the safe bet is to just run b&g not cut then adjust the strut with the wheel and tire combination. I just didnt know if you could drop it to far and it would crush the strut tube, sounds like clearance is the only thing I need to worry about?
