I've been thinking of doing the same. With a cut off wheel, I don't think it should be a problem, as long as the spring is non-compressed where the cut will be.

Sounds like a good way to loose some fingers.
LMAO!!!

This is true, as long as the strut mount is on the stock spring... it's compressed. Trust me.

This is a WAY bad idea...

I was going to use the spring removal tools to take the load off the strut mount, then cut away. After looking, it doesn't look like there's room to get up there on the fronts! I'll just drop the assembly from the strut towers and go from there.

i recently cut a half of a top coil of a atx car thats now an mtx, it droped the car about 1.5". I am very happy with it, now it sits at stock height.

i did not risk cutting coils inside the car + there is no room, and while the spring assembly was out i got a cahnce to rust **** both of the fender wells and rust-o-leum them. The front springs are under quite a bit of tension, i used a bench spring compressor to remove them and install them safely.

Let me know where to send the flowers. Very DANGEROUS to do it while still mounted. Even though they look relax the springs still have a good deal of tension on them.I would remove the spring first before cutting.
