So I am currently running uncut Intrax with Koni's. I am going to be adding adjustable strut mounts and was thinking of cutting a coil off up front. I have seen pics and like the way it looks, my question is how will this effect handling? I know it would reduce the amount of strut travel I have avaliable....is this an issue? The way the car handles is more of a priority than the stance, so id there is a negative effect I don't want to cut them. Thanks

Cutting the springs will result in more bump steer. You can try to shim the rack and help reduce this effect. May also scrape the undersides on speedbumps, driveways, etc.
I would not cut the Intrax, as you can't go back. IF you dont have full length SFC's welded on, do that first, as that will help handling more than cutting the springs.

WIthout them there really isn't much room for your strut to move at all. I'm almost wondering if the short springs helped to wear out the front set of Tokiko's I had. "Turn in" was a little faster, but I dunno, it just wasn't for me.

I got a set here already cut if your curious you can toss em on and figure it out if you like em. They would need painted if you wanted to keep em, but if you want to see just for sport you can have em.

That little bit of spring absorbs a LOT. Esp if you have skinny profile tires, it's very noticeable.

Thanks guys, I will probably just keep them as is. I just figured since I would have them out anyway I may try it.

Murry's 95 thats living in my barn currently has the cut intrax/tokico combo, and it rides like a chuckwagon on its 18's....you run over a blade of grass you feel it.....

I never saw the point of it, but it does work on his car

I ran Intrax/Koni for years with one dead coil cut up front. I noticed nothing different in handling or wear, but the wheel gap was better. My steering rack is already shimmed.

When you talk about shimming the steering rack, do you just mean using washers to raise it off the subframe? How much did you shim it?

Zachs car is also stripped.. less weight over the wheels.. I'm running jasons cut springs now.. while I've never driven a car with uncut coils I do know it handles fine.. ride is rough, but why buy konis/intrax for comfort... once I get it on the track I will see if I run into issues.

As long as you have good proper struts that can handle the springs like koni's you will be fine. But the ride quality can be sacrificed a tad with cut intrax. Like Clay said, my car weighs 2780 pounds. Even with -2 coils i can fist my wheel gap.

Actually the only strut solution on the market today (apart from coilovers) that can adequately handle aftermarket springs are the Konis.

All you would be cutting is a dead coil, it is only there for height. I ran cut intrax on the front of my 93 for a couple of years, and my track car is also on -2 intrax. the only issue I have with the -2 is the spring is so short when I lift up the car, I have to be careful it goes back into the seat.

I've been running cut Intrax for about 6 years. If I were to do it again, I wouldn't have cut them. Looks great, but the struts bottom out from time to time on the street, and I suspect that the car rides the front outside bump stop during hard turns on the track, especially while trail braking.

I'm going to SHOSource coilovers.

Nope, Konis are not on the market anymore.

Front Konis are readily available. As a matter of fact, Tire Rack has them on special 20% off($127 each) right now. The rears can be found if you look hard enough. I found a new set of rears on Amazon a few months back.

As Steven said above, if you cut a coil, you're cutting a dead coil. Only height will be affected.

Historically 3 or so washers were all you could fit. However, the bolts on the later Tauri are longer, and therefore you might be able to raise the rack more. In order to do this correctly you need to bumpsteer the car.

gmorrell was the original one to find the need to raise the rack on uncut Eibachs. He did this by putting the car on al alignment rack, measuring toe, then checking toe again with each inch or so of compression travel, which was done by using a come along (or two) tied to the floor, and winching it down.

Others have removed the springs while on the alignment rack, but that is alot of work.

The hat trick is to cut the springs, then reduce the subframe to frame distance, therby raising the control arm pivot points and improving the camber curve. But that comes after a Gen III or IV subframe upgrade . . . .

I used 2 CV shaft washers to shim my rack. I did this years ago, witout any problems.
