When I hook up my cruise control, the throttle will sometimes stick wide open. I know this is a fairly common problem, but I was wondering if there is any way to fix it w/o installing a new cable. Knowing the SHO there is probably no easy fix, but I drive 400+ miles to and from school about every month so cruise would be nice on the hwy. Especially since I just got a ticket and need to keep the speeds consistantly under 80. I have it disconnected now but would like to get it up and running again; as it worked fine (aside from sticking) when I had it hooked up. Thanks.

JoesSHO,

How does the throttle get to the Wide Open position? Does the cruise control open the throttle to the wide open position all by it self? If you have the cruise control on why would you go to wide open throttle?

For your long trips home reattach the cruise cable, get up to cruise speed, and relax. There should be no need to go to wide open throttle during your "Cruise" home.

Have you tried lubricating the cruise control throttle cable? Try asking the forum members if someone has an extra cable from a parts car!

I'll try to explain what's happened in the past. I'll be driving, no cruise set, and just messin around I'll floor it (it is a SHO after all :D )The throttle will open all the way, but for some reason the cable will pull taught (Like you set the cruise at wide open throttle) and the engine will continue to rev till way past redline. Not fun I assure you. I think it might have something to do with the cable sticking somewhere when the throttle is wide open. I think I'm gonna take your advice and just reconnect it for the ride home though. The only thing I'm worried about is that occasional hwy. battle where wide open throttle is necessary. It's usually rare on the route I travel, but I don't want the throttle sticking open on the hwy. (Here's where everyone says "Well just don't race a**hole!) Probably right, but I really want to have fully functional cruise. Rangerj, do you think putting teflon or some other kind of lubricant on the actual cable will help? Has anyone else had this problem and found an easy fix (i.e. w/o having to replace the cable altogether) Thanks as always for the imput

JOESHO,

You are right it is a SHO, you are young, and you can't let some Freaking ricer blow you off! Been there, done that. It's your turn. My eyesight and reaction time ain't what it used to be.

Anyway, about your cruise control cable. Check the cable for any kinks. Lubricating the cable is a good idea. It could be some corrosion that is binding the cable in the casing. The other possibility is something binding and not letting the cable retract in the servo.

I have not done to much with the workings of the cruise control, so I'll do a little research and get back to you.

In re. the occasional "Highway Battle". Choose your battles carefully buddy. The loss can be catastrophic.

Lastly, while you are in school take advantage of it. Do the best that you can each day, one day at a time. You are making an investment in the rest of your life, and it will pay dividends for the rest of your life. Food for thought.
