where is the cruise control amp located? My cruise on my 95 doesnt work, the fuses are good and I tested the switches on the sterring wheel and they are good...Where is the amp located? I have my chilton book to diagnose the wires and what they should read, but cant find it?

Is there anything else I should check to figure out the problem? Are there any common problems? When I am driving the car and turn on the crusie should there be a dash light that comes on? Any help would be appriciated!

Might be the cable is off the TB or broke. There should be two throttle cables. Follow one back to the CC servo is.

my SHO is a MTX... I read in my chilton that the cruise control "amp" should be checked, but dont know where it is located... I looked at the servo(where the speedo cable goes), it looks ok but dont know how to test it...

so you tested resistance in the switches on the steering wheel and they are in spec?

the mtx cruise control uses vacuum to run the servo, so a common issue is a bad vac hose that allows the vacuum to leak off and not pull the servo to the demanded location.

the other common issue is the vss is bad - this can usually be confirmed quickly by noting if the idle stays up at "fast idle" of around 1100 rpm as you coast to a stop and only drops down to the "regular idle" of 700ish after you have gotten below 5 mph. if it does not do that, you likely have a bad vss.

On a 94 MTX, the function of the speed control amplifier is built into the PCM. The Chilton's is not providing the correct information for you.

My 94 mtx cruise was also not working. I found the vacuum line that runs under the drivers side dash had gotten a hole rubbed in it from the steering column. Guess the line got shifted over time and then came in contact with the steering column. I couldn't find anything else wrong with mine either until I found it accidentally when I was removing an alarm system that the previous owner had put in.
Check yours its an easy fix if thats it. Good luck.

Follow the the cable from the throttle body down to
the vacuum actuator. Check the v-band that secures the 2 halves
together. Mine was rusted out and lost vacuum. Also check the
rubber lines for splits. Check from under the car.
I purchased a used one off of ebay for $30..swapped it out..all
working fine again. I also lost the cruise "on" dash light until I
replaced the old unit.
I see you are also in a Rust Belt area..!!!

My 93 ATX never had a cruise on light on the dash, what years had the light and where is it located? My 95 MTX isn't working so I will be checking some things that are in this thread as well as making sure my parking brake is secured against the switch.
