My cruise control or speed control recently stopped working. I checked the fuse and its fine, my horn work fine. But, when I ran my codes I got a 452. Has anyone dealt with that before? I have a 93 ATX, 170K mi. Thanks.

DTC 452 is a VSS error code.

  • Continuous Memory DTC 29 or 452 indicates that sometime during the last 40 or 80 warm-up cycles, the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) detected an error in the vehicle speed sensor output signal.

    Possible causes:

    -- Damaged Vehicle Speed Sensor.

    -- Damaged harness circuits.

-- Damaged Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

l Perform VSS Drive Cycle at least three times as outlined below.

VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR (VSS) DRIVE CYCLE:

-- Record and clear Continuous Memory DTCs.

-- Warm engine to operating temperature.

    AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS:

-- Place gear selector in DRIVE range.

-- Obey all local traffic laws. Accelerate heavily to 35 mph.

-- Coast down to an idle and stop the vehicle.

    -- Shut the engine off.

-- After the drive cycle is completed, run Key On Engine Off Self-Test and record the Continuous Memory DTCs displayed.

    MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS:

-- From first gear, shift to second.

-- Obey all local traffic laws. Accelerate moderately to 40 mph.

-- Coast down to an idle and stop the vehicle.

    -- Shut the engine off.

-- After the drive cycle is completed, run Key On Engine Off Self-Test and record the Continuous Memory DTCs displayed.

Thanks I'll give it a try. Will doing this make my cruise control come back? I'm planning a trip to Chicago in a month and it will be nice to not have mash my foot down for 4 hours.

Be sure to check the obvious and see if the linkage is still attached to the TB.
