Common problem. First thing is to check the cruise control cable on the throttle body. It's right next to the throttle cable. If you pull the throttle by hand you can pop the CC cable back on there. Expect it to pop off again. I tried securing mine with zip ties but that didn't work. The solution is to cut about .5-.75" of the black plastic sleeve material off the cable end. You should see what I mean when you take a look.

Since trimming my sleeve about 4 months ago the cable has stayed put and I've had a perfectly working cruise control.

DeeK,

If the cable between the cruise control serva and the throttle body is OK, as well as any other connections, and the vacuum connection to the servo is OK, the likely problem is the clockspring.

The clockspring is behind the steering wheel, in the steering column. Be aware that the airbag EXPLODES when it goes off, and the gas that expands the airbag is super hot. An accidental triggering of the airbag could be catastrophic.

You can change the clockspring by yourself, but you better know exactly what you are doing. Do your homework. Disconnect the battery and leave it for at least a half an hour. Make sure you do not generate any static electricity when working anywhere near that airbag.

This is one job where if you are not sure you know exactly what you are doing, DON'T. rangerj

I had the same problem with my cruise poping off all the time. I read your post and went out to the grage with a dremel and cut the open end of the tube down about .5" Now my cruise is not working; did I cut the wrong end of the tube ? did I not cut enough or did I cut to much? I can take pics if you want to see.

Thanks
Greg

Trimming the black plastic sleeve solved the same problem my cruise control was having. I also use a small zip tie to secure the end. It's been fine now for many, many miles.
