Cruise Control Doesn't

My cruise control died. The tech says that it’s the servo/module that is under the hood. He also says that this servo unit is used on almost ALL Ford products and the wrecking yards are full of them. I snagged one from a Ford Truck, swapped the bracket and cable, still don’t work. Either it’s dead, or my tech is wrong and it’s something else. Is there any way to test these units off of the car? I don’t mind spending the $177.00 for a new one, but it sure would be nice to spend $25.00 for a good used one instead. Anyone have the cruise control diagnostic procedure handy?

A few years ago, my cruise control died on me, and this is what I found to be wrong. Look under the dash, at the steering linkage that is under there. There is a small vacuum hose that connects to the brake and clutch switch. The purpose being that when the brake is applied or the clutch depressed, it brakes the vacuum and disables the cruise. The problem with mine was that the hose was rubbing on the steering mechanism, and had worn through causing a vacuum leak. I just replaced the hose and my cruise has been fine ever since. I am not saying that this is your problem as I have never heard of anyone else having it happen to, but it is something to check out. Good luck

could that vacuum hose also cause cruise control to surge. My cruise control works but it will speed up then back off and then speed up and back off again. I've asked what could be the problem before but nobobdy seems to have the same problem.

I had that issue and it was my VSS. When I swapped my tranny I kept the VSS that came with it and now the cruise is steady.

Fixed it.
It seems that the Ford tech I took it to missed something. We noticed that when the connector was removed, it was full of what looked like oil. Mystery. Where could oil be coming from? He told me the module was **** up. I almost went out and bought a new one for $177.00. Luckily, I didn't. Instead, I went down to a wrecking yard and located a module off of a late model Ford Truck, Paid $25.00 for it and swapped out the bracket and cable. Cruise still didn't work. HMMMMM, So, I took it back to him one more time. We were looking at the mysterious oil, I said that it looked like brake fluid. The light bulb went on. The cruise control brake pressure switch had failed and was dripping brake fluid on the wiring harness. Swapped out the switch and now my cruise control works like a champ. (I didn't know about the brake pressure switch) Now, I am wondering what damage all that brake fluid did to the wiring harness. ???
