Cruise control doesn't work, light does not come on

The cruise control doesn't work on my car, it hasn't since I bought it. ITs a 1990 5 speed. When I turn cruise control on the light doesn't light up on the dash. (im assuming there is a light, lol). I checked the plastic clip that commonly breaks on the throttle but that is in tact. Anyone have any ideas?

I don't think there is a dash light for the cruise control, at least not for the Gen 2 SHOs.

im gonna check tomorrow but im fairly certain mine has a light.

Either way, the cruise control isn't working.

check fuse? start small is the best way to go

If your in a rust belt area, check the v-clamp that holds the 2 halves together on the vacuum can. Mine was rusted out and lost vacuum..just follow the cable down under front bumper drivers side.My 95 mtx doesn't have a cruise indicator light.

Do you have athird brake light? On some cars if it burns out the cruise will stop working. Also if you have a bad clockspring the cruise will quit. My cruise quit and when I replaced the clockspring it started working again.

cruise will also not work if the vss is bad, or if the switches on the steering wheel are bad. you will need to follow the troubleshooting to get this taken care of, since there are so many possibilities.

my cruise stopped working for a while and It was simply where the throttle cable hooks onto something. so if you see a cable that looks detached, there you go!

You're probably talking about the black plastic clip that connects the cruise control thingy to the throttle cable. I'm pretty sure mine is attached, unless I'm looking at the wrong thing.

Nope thats it both cables run to the throttle body. My '90 always has a problem with it staying hooked so i just leave it off lol.

I see. Do you know of a way to test the VSS and other various switches? Or have a possible link to testing info? I have a ford service manual but it doesn't show how to test sensors and electrical stuff. I think there is separate book for that kind of stuff.

if the vss is bad, you will get a pcm code, so check those.

the service manual has a troubleshooting section for the cruise, just follow that.

ok i tested my cruise control. works but no light in dash which is weird cuz i thought i saw one before. oh well thats not the problem anyways
