cruise control coast tearing my car up?

dont ask how i forgot about this but last week i had my crusie control on going 75 and hit the coast button. when i did i i got this horrible noise like it was slamming in and out of gear. needless to say i tuned it off damn quick and havnt touched it since. other than the coast the cruise control works fine. any insight?
