On the way back to my parents' for christmas (approx 200mi), my 94 mtx developed a new sound. I guess the best way to describe this sound is squeaking/creaking (kind of like a creaky door, but much faster and repeatedly) whenever I change into a new gear. Once in gear, it sounds normal. Finally got a chance to fiddle with the SHO today, first thing I checked was the trans fluid, which was a good 1/2-3/4qt low. So, I filled it up, and took it around the neighborhood. Still squeaks/creaks going into gear, if anything it got worse after adding fluid. Still pretty normal sounding once in gear.

Did I ***** my trans by driving back?

Is there a different problem I should look into?

If the answer to that first question is yes, anyone have an extra low-mileage mtx in MI or OH?

Thanks for any help and insight you can provide.

is this noise only present when pressing on the clutch pedal, or predominately when doing so?

sounds like a bad TOB

Does it sound like the creaking sound may be coming from the shifter area? If so...Mine does it too....and so do some others. It's not a clutch issue. There have been some prior posts about this and nobody has figured it out AFAIK.

Well, it doesn't occur the entire time the clutch is out, just when going into a new gear. When pulling out of a gear or when holding the clutch in at a stop sign for instance there's no squeaking.

Yes, very much sounds like it's coming from the trans/shifter area.

Did you fix it, or do you just drive with a squeaking/creaking trans? Does your SHO still work ok or should I keep looking for a new tranny?

Just an FYI don't hold your clutch down while at stop lights let it up till your ready to launch, you will prematurely wear it out.

Stop sign, not stop light :) In this case, a couple stop signs when I did a lap of the neighborhood after topping off the trans fluid.

thats odd then, I don't really think the transmission would make that kind of noise, ESPECIALLY IN EVERY GEAR, if thats the case i'd be looking elsewhere..... the shifter noise idea might be a good one... investigate that

Disassembling and lubricating the shifter may have helped mine a litle, but did not eliminate the creaking noise. It is most evident when the clutch is being engaged. My motor mounts are new reinforced.
