Ok well the CPS went out on my car last week and i got around to changing it yesterday. When i got the engine apart and got to taking off the harmonic balancer i noticed the bolt that holds it on was loose. i just backed it out by hand. Any ideas as to why this would happen? When i bought the car and replaced the timing belt it was the same way.

definitley get a new bolt, and torque it to spec with a torque wrench. I'd also inspect for crank cancer being as it was loose, and who knows how long.

Yesterday I dropped the motor and trans out of my car so I can drop a new one in. I needed the timing cover off my old motor, so I needed to pull the crank pully off. I was using an impact so I dont know how loose it was, but it was loose. The impact gun spun it off like it wasnt very tight at all.

well the torque on your average store bought impact gun is around 220-250 unless you get el cheapo. But the bolt is only torqued to 120lbs.

Shouldn't take to many whacks of the torque gun. I use a Strap Wrench and a breaker bar to loosen the bolt.

Well we had benn pulling bolts off all day before that one. And in every case I could feel and hear the impact gun banging a couple of times before it started spining free. The crank pully bot just spun right out. It may not have been loose enough to spin with your finger, but it was not 120lbs.

There is no need to replace the bolt. It is NOT a TTY (Torque To Yield) bolt.

Just make certain you properly torque it during reassembly.

The bolt is obsolete. You won't likely find a new one easily.

Question about 60K -- crankshaft vane ?wear

Working on the 60K yesterday and noticed that the front part of the crankshaft vane (sits right behind the crank sprocket and pulley) has wear on one face. Pulled it off, and found it to be a little bent.

Can I just re-bend this thing so that it is flat with perpendicular vanes, or should I try to get a replacement ?

OK well maybe third time will be a charm. I took the whole pump back off to find one of the O-rings on the tube was broke. so i replaced it and put it all back together. Now its leaking more than it was before. How hard is it to take that tube out and replace the o-ring on the other side? More importantly how hard is it to get it back in the thermostat side of the motor?
